The Advocate Aurora Research Institute (AARI) at Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) invites applicants for mid-career and senior research scientist positions to lead research programs that align with our strengths and priorities in health equity, population health, health systems research, dissemination and implementation science, as well as research focused on children and families, aging and behavioral health.  This is an exciting opportunity to lead a research program in a top health system and collaborate with research scientists, clinicians, and health system leaders.

The ideal candidates are innovative scientists, particularly diverse scientists, who bring new perspectives to AARI and thrive in a collaborative environment. Successful candidates should have a track record of high impact peer-reviewed publications and extramural grant funding. Of particular interest are senior level scientists who are nationally and internationally recognized, lead extramurally funded programs of research, and have experience collaborating in translational research environments.

As a leading employer in the Midwest, Advocate Aurora Health employs more than 75,000 individuals and is engaged in hundreds of clinical trials and research studies in addition to being nationally recognized for its expertise in cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, and pediatrics.  Embarking on a new chapter in innovation, the AARI is seeking to expand its cadre of independent researchers to achieve impactful outcomes.  Our researchers have been at the forefront of discoveries in health disparities, population health, evidence-based medicine, and behavioral health, taking an interdisciplinary approach in applying expertise from a range of specialties including epidemiology, implementation science, and nursing, to address health issues in diverse settings.  

Directs large, ongoing program of research in area(s) aligned with AAH strengths and AARI priorities and comprised of multiple, coordinated research, demonstration and/or evaluation projects in defined area of expertise.

Leads or co-leads complex system-level projects with clinicians and other scientists, within or outside AARI. Serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on research studies that contribute to an aligned program of research.

Leads project teams to achieve study objectives, deliver results on time, and ensure the quality of research deliverables. Serves as AARI site lead for aligned projects with collaborators and funders to ensure requirements and expectations are met in a timely manner.

Sustains a program of research with successful external funding. Leads and designs grant submissions to internal and external funding agencies to secure and grow external and philanthropic funding of AARI academic research and support his/her program of research.

Disseminates research findings through reports, presentations at regional and national conferences, and publications in major peer-reviewed journals, and is adept in articulating findings to internal and external audiences.

Contributes expert knowledge related to his/her area(s) of expertise in developing/refining the AARI academic research agenda and system-wide initiatives.

Develops and communicates research strategy and direction for an area of research that aligns with AARI priority areas and organizational goals. Engaged at leadership level in AAH and AARI committees and task forces.

Provides expert knowledge to research leaders and other scientists in addressing and resolving issues related to activities, budgets, and staffing for research projects.

Mentors other scientists across AARI.

Serves on scientific peer review groups and national policy/advisory boards.

Degrees

Doctorate Degree in Health Science or related field.

Required Functional Experience

Typically requires 10 years of experience in Public health, health sciences, biostatistics, health economics, health services research or equivalent. 7 years’ experience in independent program of research, with evidence of significant funding from federal and other agencies as PI and Co-I.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Expert knowledge in area(s) aligned with program of research. Self-directed and works independently. Expert knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods. Strong track record of extramural funding for research, including large federal grants. Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills. Excellent track record as author and co-author of publications in scientific journals. Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders and constituencies at all levels in academic and health care settings. Effective organizational and time management skills, as well as team building and relationship management skills. Proven skills in critical/analytic thinking, creativity/innovation, customer service, problem solving, and project management. Understanding of good clinical practices and the laws, regulations, standards and guidance governing the conduct of clinical research and the preparation of regulatory and other relevant research document submissions. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, statistical software applications (e.g., STATA, SAS, SPSS) and relational database design (e.g., REDCap).
