In alignment with the Enterprise Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) agenda focused on patients, teammates, learners, and the community, the DEI Director will oversee the South Chicagoland Patient Service Area (PSA) strategy to implement, build and strengthen structures, policies, and practices to provide an inclusive environment for patients, teammates, and the communities we serve. This will include collaborating with leadership across all disciplines to embed DEI best practices in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programming, education, and organizational strategies to drive progressive outcomes in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Director will also support broad organizational initiatives related to health equity, organizational culture, teammate engagement, patient experience, and community engagement.

Position Accountabilities

  • Strategic advisor to senior leaders and HR Strategic Business Partners on all DEI-related matters. Integrates shared decision making and change management approaches.
  • Partners with other stakeholders to advance action plans and drive progress on DEI goals.
  • Evaluates existing initiatives, programs and policies and recommends additions and enhancements to promote a more diverse and inclusive culture and workforce.
  • Identifies key performance indicators and uses benchmark data from internal and external sources to support advancing improvements.
  • Serves as strategic advisor on DEI messaging, multicultural communications and outreach to patients, teammates, and community.
  • Serve as an expert and a resource for the organization. Educate others on DEI issues, and coach and consult with Human Resources leadership on diversity issues and developments.
  • Develops cultural programming to connect staff from diverse cultural backgrounds, celebrate diversity, and encourage dialogue and understanding.
  • Develops and maintains effective collaborative relationships with external stakeholders and community partners to advance strategies to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ensures the applicability, relevance, and alignment of all diversity, equity, and inclusion related policies.
  • Works with the Market Chief Diversity Officer and other enterprise DEI leaders to ensure alignment and execution of the enterprise Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic goals.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree required, from an accredited college or university.

Experience Required:

5-10 years required, of progressive leadership experience as a diversity, equity, and inclusion expert and/or a combination of equivalent experience and transferrable skills such as policy and program development.

  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural communication, diversity, organizational and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and provide leadership in organizational change.
  • Proven builder with leadership capabilities and implementation skills that promote team cohesion and drive initiatives from start to completion.
  • Demonstrated track record of implementing positive cultural change that has had lasting impact on an organization.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with various levels within the organization.
  • Strong leadership with an ability to cultivate a common vision and collaborative culture to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated experience in employing effective problem solving and leadership skills to bring about transformational change.
