EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED equivalent with two years' experience in Sterile Processing.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or other sterile processing certification required.

Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.

2. Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.

3. Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.

4. Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.

5. Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.

6. Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.

7. Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.

8. Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.

9. Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.

10. Protects self, co-workers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s)

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to stand for long periods.

Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Ability to work with computer programs such as Excel and others as needed. Ability to order instruments via PeopleSoft.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to hazards associated with bodily fluids and tissue.

Regular exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases.

Exposure to chemical agents used in cleaning.

Exposure to hazards of steam and heat, may be subject to burns.

Loud stressful environment due to equipment and high demands.

Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

Subject to many interruptions.

Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Exposure to sharp instruments that may cause cuts or abrasions.

Must wear PPE.
