Major Responsibilities  

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards. 
  • Effective time management is a fundamental requirement for this role. The incumbent must utilize assigned time and resources in a manner that ensures the accomplishment of departmental objectivesdemonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks and reorganize workload in response to urgent or increased demands, and aid colleagues during periods of fluctuating census. 
  • Proficiency in multitasking and discernment of when to request support is essential. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities are expected, as the individual will be responsible for acting when minor issues arise.  
  • Excellent organizational skills are required, including the management of supply ordering, receiving, and stocking; organizing, maintaining, cleaning, and storing equipment; and the appropriate management of patient documentation (excluding the creation of patient care records).  
  • The role also demands caution and judgment when transporting patients, as well as effective communication with therapists, physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families in a manner appropriate to the population served.

Minimum Job Requirements 

Education

  • ​​Graduation from an accredited school or college with Bachelor of Science in exercise science, exercise physiology or kinesiology, required.   

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital environment. 
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.  
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.  
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.  
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.  
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
