- Due to complex requirements, remote work is NOT permitted for short or long periods in: CA, CO, CT, HI, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA and working Internationally (this includes working while on vacation).
- No relocation, No Sponsorship or transfer of visa for this position now or in the future.
Works collaboratively with internal and external customers in a high paced/high volume Legal Department under the direction and supervision of attorneys to provide legal assistance and support system-entities. Performs a wide variety of duties to ensure each entity is operating consistent with the mission, purpose and values of Advocate Health. Provides legal support to assist system-entities and ensures quality work product in compliance with legal requirements, best practices and internal policies and procedures. Maintains familiarity with and researches applicable laws and regulations pertaining to federal and state regulatory requirements for health care providers.
Major Responsibilities:

Drafts, reviews and, as applicable and under the direction of an attorney, manages various types of legal documents (e.g. contracts, organizational documents, policies and procedures, letters of intent, memoranda of understanding, service agreements, employment agreements, education agreements, settlement agreements, separation agreements, leases, timeshares, use agreements, subleases, closing documents, confidentiality agreements, charters, bylaws, minutes and resolutions, certificates, corporate filings, pleadings, affidavits, subpoenas responses, discovery requests, etc.). When applicable, ensure contract terms align with Legal Department and system policies, as well as, ensure that the appropriate approvals are in place prior to execution and signers are aligned with company policies.

As directed, assists with regulatory and legal analyses, including compliance with relevant laws and related regulations. Performs complex legal research, including review of statutes, regulations, accreditation standards, online databases, case law, legal articles and other documents.

At the direction of an attorney, participates and assists in the handling of legal matters, including transactions, investigations / litigation, due diligence, information gathering/discovery, document production requests for governmental or administrative investigations, document preservation notices, and other related responsibilities and assignments as requested by attorneys in the department.

Maintains a variety of legal documents, records and databases, including contracts, corporate records, reports and pleadings, litigation matter management reports and other reports.

Prepares and monitors document preservation notices and otherwise assists with litigation matters, as applicable.

Evaluates and responds to requests for contracts, and coordinates signatures on contracts and other legal documents as needed.

Communicates with outside counsel and others on behalf of attorneys.

Serves as an initial point of contact for other departments in numerous areas, including patient care, employment, subpoena and release of information, medical research and healthcare marketing.

Performs such various other assignments as may be requested by attorneys in the department. Assists with projects as needed by other Paralegals.
Education Required:
-
Associate’s degree in legal field. Bachelors preferred.
Experience Required:

Typically requires 3 years of related experience as a paralegal
