Major Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains employee payroll records in compliance with established policies.
  • Accurately processes and calculates payroll entries to ensure correct employee payments.
  • Provides support for time editors in performing edits, reporting, and employee education.
  • Evaluates and makes retro adjustments.
  • Reconciles and audits leave of absence documentation, making appropriate entry into the Time & Attendance and Workday payroll systems.
  • Research leave of absence discrepancies.
  • Enters maintenance in Workday, including pay line entries, garnishments, general deductions, leave accrual adjustments, travel advances, additional pay, and W-4 information.
  • Works with the Human Resources Service Center through the Workday Case Management system to assist managers and employees with payroll related questions.
  • Works with accounting personnel to reconcile payroll general ledger account discrepancies to include suspense items.
  • Prepares accounts payable payment requests and related documentation for proper payroll distributions to vendors (taxing authorities, wage assignment agencies, general deduction vendors).
  • Reviews and audits employee business expense reimbursement requests.
  • Processes employee travel advances.
  • Responsible for specialized functions, answers complex questions, resolves complex problems, and may lead or provide work direction to other staff members, including training and onboarding of new staff.

  • None Required.

Education Required:

  • High School Graduate.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in payroll or comparable experience in a fast-paced, high-volume administrative environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Proven research and troubleshooting skills required to identify and examine exceptions and errors, evaluate corrective actions, and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to ensure completion of a wide variety of tasks under varying deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills. Above average organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong awareness of the confidential nature of the position.
  • Demonstrated understanding of government regulations and tax laws relative to payroll, including laws and regulations regarding garnishments. Knowledge of Leave of Absence, FMLA, and Employee Business Expense Reimbursement policies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate knowledge of paycheck details, including gross earnings to net pay, taxable wages, tax withholding, pre/post tax deductions, and overtime/additional pay calculations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Workday, including core Payroll and Employee Self Service functionality and basic Job data, or equivalent system.
  • Thorough understanding of Kronos or other time and attendance applications.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit 90% of the workday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally when carrying boxes of time sheets or payroll binders.
  • Will be required to use hands repetitively with fine manipulation when sorting time sheets.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the duties of the job.
  • Exposed to normal office environment.
