Title:  Registered Nurse – Operating Room Cohort (New Grads & Non-OR experienced Nurses)

Scheduled Hours: Cohort to start September 23, 2024;

                                7am-3:30pm; Monday-Friday will be orientation schedule;

                      Future shift to be determined upon completion of orientation

                      based on needs of department;

                                FULL TIME; 80 hours a pay period;

                                Future rotating call upon successful completion of orientation

                                expected to be 3-4 shifts per 4 week schedule;  

                                Must meet 30 minute call requirement  

Job Summary:

We are seeking new grads or experienced RN's that are excited about the Operating Room to join a cohort where you will orientate for a period of 8 months learning to be efficient as a Registered Nurse in Advocate Lutheran General’s Operating Rooms (Main OR or Ambulatory Surgery OR)!

Are you looking for a teaching environment that will challenge your knowledge and skills surrounding surgical nursing in the Operating Room? You are the eyes, the ears, and the voice of the patient during one of the most vulnerable times of a person’s healthcare journey.  The OR is highly interdependent, and team based.  You will work closely with surgeons, residents, advanced practice clinicians, anesthesiologists, technologists and assistants to provide superior surgical outcomes.  Your orientation and practice environment is rooted in the specialty standards and educational programs of the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN).  Your extensive RN orientation includes exposure to both circulating and scrub competencies.

The OR performs all specialty surgeries except transplants and offers state-of-the-art equipment and services. The main surgery department has 19 OR Rooms operational 24/7. The Ambulatory Surgery Center has 7 OR Rooms operational Mondays-Saturdays.

Position Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Current IL RN license
  • BSN preferred, ADN acceptable with agreement for nurses with less than 12 months of experience to enroll in BSN completion program to be completed in four years.  Nurses with more than 12 months experience in direct patient care must possess a BSN or obtain either BSN or Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) recognized nursing certification within one year of the date of hire or becoming eligible to sit for certification, whichever is later.
  • Seeking an RN with minimum of one year non OR nursing experience OR will consider Graduate Nurse NCLEX passed with “official pass letter” or RN Licensed
  • Exposure to OR highly desired (i.eNursing School Capstone/Immersion in OR)
  • Must be available to start September 23, 2024
  • Current AHA CPR
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing
  • Certain positions may need to take call
  • Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick
  • Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster
  • Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients
  • Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
