Major Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to ensure the quality and accuracy of department operations by providing a selective menu service to patients.
    •     Communicates effectively when assisting patients and/or family with menu selections.
    •     Communicates between Nursing, Guest Service Representatives, and tray line in order to clarify orders and provide prompt service.
    •     Communicates special patient needs to Clinical Dietitians
    •     Using a hand-held computer, down-loads and up-loads patient information and obtains menu selections for all assigned patients and units.
  • Demonstrates the ability to ensure the quality and accuracy of department operations by processing Diet, Tube-Feeding, Supplement, Nourishment Orders, as well as patient Allergy information.
    •     Follows physician’s diet orders for all patients
    •     Updates and maintains accurate patient card files in the CBORD Computer System and Kardex.
    •     Adheres to specific standards for diets when entering selections into the handheld and main [CBORD] computers, and when modifying or checking patient’s meal selections and Tray-Tickets.
    •     Updates and maintains Tube-Feeding Orders, Supplement Orders, Nourishment Orders, and patient allergy information.
    •     Updates patient preferences in the CBORD Computer System
  • Participates in self development by attending mandatory inservices and meetings appropriate to the goals and needs of the department.
    •   Attends inservice programs on equipment use and operation.
    •   Attends all mandatory inservice programs and meetings.
  • Guest Relations
    •   Maintains professional image and follows department uniform policy.
    •   Responds positively to all requests.
    •   Displays commitment to hospital’s philosophy mission statement, and values in all interactions.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Can perform all Diet Office positions accurately.
    • Cross trained to perform functions needed throughout the department, including trayline positions, cafeteria positions, and sanitation. Will be assigned to various positions outside of diet office, depending on the needs of the department.  
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Completion of high school education or G.E.D. 4-12 Months food and/or nutrition experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Excellent communication skills. Proficient knowledge of computer operations.

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, walking or standing. Work may require an awkward or strained position to be assumed for a short period of time in lifting or handling heavy objects • Kitchen equipment for trayline and/or cafeteria service may be used: heavy patient carts, steam tables, coffee urns • Indoor environment – some noise, fumes or other distractions • Outdoor environment – exposure to various weather conditions • OSHA Risk Category ll. Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
