Schedule Details/Additional Information:
The CT Department current hours are Monday – Thursday 6am – 9pm, Friday 6am – 5pm and Saturday 6am – 2:30pm. The registry position would assist with providing coverage for PTO, call ins and additional access.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Displays competent understanding of patient positioning and image critique
    • 1)Ability to competently position patients for all exams
    • 2)Perform problem solving as it relates to physical limitations of patient during patient positioning
    • 3)Follows appropriate scanning protocol per Radiologist
    • 4)Competent to perform image reviews to determine if more views are necessary to complete the exam
    • 5)Ability to select and adjust technical factors governing the imaging process
    • 6)Ability to identify artifacts on film and assist in problem solving
    • 7)Has minimum amount of repeat work
    • 8)Annual Competencies
    • 9)Able to efficiently communicate normal and abnormal anatomy that is captured on scans to the Radiologist
    • 10)Able to evaluate CT orders for appropriateness using the ACR Appropriateness Criteria
  • Operations, Equipment, and Safety
    • 1)Ability to operate all equipment in a competent manner
    • 2)Able to modify technical factors as situation warrants
    • 3)Able to perform start-up and shut down procedures on all equipment
    • 4)Ensures that images are labeled and marked correctly
    • 5)Inspects equipment on a daily basis during use
    • 6)Reports any malfunctions to leader. If leader is unavailable, contacts proper company for repairs, if needed.
    • 7)Performs problem solving as situations warrant; i.e., equipment malfunction, and physical limitations of equipment.
    • 8)Handles all equipment with care
  • Patient Care
    • 1)Responsible for the welfare and care of all patients directly under their control: i.e., implementation of immobilization devices as necessary for patient safety and comfort
    • 2)Secures history from patients and records on appropriate form for Radiologist
    • 3)Ability to access vein for the purpose of injecting IV contrast according to department and clinic policy
    • 4)Administers contrast material as indicated by requisition
    • 5)Ability to recognize contraindications and respond appropriately to adverse reaction to oral or IV contrast
    • 6)Documents allergic reactions according to department protocol
  • PACS/EMR/Other Software
    • 1)Demonstrates the ability to arrive, begin, and end studies in the EMR
    • 2)Demonstrates the ability to utilize modality work list/or select patient in modality, acquire, and send images from modality to PACS
    • 3)Demonstrates the ability to log in to PACS and retrieve the appropriate study
    • 4)Carries out the QC process in PACS
    • 5)Selects the correct buttons for prior exams and availability
    • 6)Determines if pertinent priors are available in PACS
    • 7)Ensures the image link is available and working in the EMR
    • 8)Notifies PACS Administrator or assistant of any issues that they are not able to resolve
    • 9)General trouble shooting i.e., splitting, merging, changing accession number, etc
    • 10)Knows how to use iPad
  • Professional Development
    • 1)Attends and participates in department meetings
    • 2)Maintains required amount of CME’s
    • 3)Maintains current ARRT certification and IEMA licensure
    • 4)Participates in problem solving that would improve quality for modality, department, or clinic
    • 5)Maintains CPR certification
    • 6)Provides direction and instruction to new staff, students, and staff in need of assistance
    • 7)Contributes to performance goals of department
  • Other Duties
    • 1)Stocks rooms as needed
    • 2)Assists others as needed
    • 3)Participates in patient education
    • 4)Performs QC/QA and notifies leader when testing has exceeded boundaries
    • 5)Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience Required:

  • Graduate of AMA approved school/program of Radiologic Technology • 1-2 years CT scanning experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Competent degree of technical knowledge to perform CT studies • Able to make some diagnostic judgments when scanning • Good communication skills • Good organizational skills • Some computer knowledge • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy • Competent IV skills
  • Registered ARRT (R)(CT) • IEMA licensed • CPR certified

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work flexible hours • Ability to stand for long periods of time • Ability to constantly view small monitors during exams • Willingness to work overtime when needed • Work under frequent stress in sensitive clinical settings • Responds positively to requests to work on short notice • Flexible in start and end times • May be exposed to infectious diseases and hazardous materials • Flexible in changing environment • Ability to lift and move patients
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
