1st shift and rotating on call

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plasters, patches, sands, and primes a variety of walls. Mixes and applies latex, oil paint, lacquer, and varnish.
  • Removes old finishes and patches chipped areas of furniture. Prepares stains as necessary to obtain the desired color. Applies a variety of finishes and specialized products to furniture, new woodwork, and paneling.
  • Reads designs, matches patterns, measures and cuts wall covering material to specifications. Calculates and mixes paste to prepare the wall covering materials.
  • Repairs wall sections and replaces wall with rough and smooth finish plaster.
  • Computes job costs and order parts, equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Cleans and performs basic maintenance of tools and other materials and properly stores these materials.
  • Schedules and coordinates day-to-day activities so as not to inconvenience the patients, employees, and visitors.
  • Ensures compliance with safety procedures.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Education Required:

  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Painting and Decorating.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in commercial/residential painting and/or experience working in a paint shop.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Completion of a Painter and Decorator state indentured apprenticeship program.
  • Current driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety standards.
  • Proficiency using paint brushes, rollers, and a spray gun.
  • Basic computer and mathematical skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to problem solve.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to twist, kneel, bend, stoop, crawl, climb, and reach above shoulders as needed to perform tasks. Must also have the ability to withstand constant standing/walking.
  • Must be able to climb up and down a ladder throughout the workday.
  • Must have functional vision in order to distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands and wrists.
  • Must be able to:
  • lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead.
  • lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest-level.
  • lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to:
  • push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
  • Exposed to mechanical, chemical and explosive hazards. Also exposed to sharp instruments.
  • Will be exposed to fumes from mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, paint and varnish remover. Fans, masks, and other protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
  • Atmosphere may contain dust, odors and fumes.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
