Location: 2999 N. Mayfair Rd, with potential to float among GME surgery centers.Hours: Typically 6:15 AM – 3:00 PM, but will vary based on need.Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled PRN Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician to join our team on an as-needed basis. This role is designed to provide flexible support during peak times, staff absences, or when additional coverage is required. As a PRN team member, you will help ensure the efficient processing and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.Additional Information:

  • Experience Required: Previous experience as an SPD Technician is essential.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control practices, and equipment handling.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work flexibly and adjust to varying schedules based on operational needs.
  • No Assigned Days: Hours will be scheduled as needed, with no fixed days assigned.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Processes all reusable medical/surgical items for issue according to departmental and infection control policy and procedures.
  • Sterilizes instruments and equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations and infection control guidelines. Completes thorough cleaning of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Processes patient care equipment for re-issue. Inspects patient care equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Inspects surgical instruments and equipment for proper functioning.
  • Performs biological indicator tests on the Steam sterilizers and the Sterrad Unit and Steris One.
  • Assembles instrument sets according to department protocols. Packages instrument sets for sterilizing.
  • Distributes sterile equipment to appropriate areas. Communicates and notifies all personnel for the recall of sterilized items.
  • Restocks surgery unit with medical/surgical supplies. Maintains established supply levels in the Central Processing area.
  • Revises department policies to meet the department standards. Observes environmental standards for the Central Processing area.
  • Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pull various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.

  • High School Graduate.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good interpersonal communication skills. Requires the ability to receive and present information with proper conduct and tact.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to:
  • lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead
  • lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance
  • Must be able to:
  • push/pull with 20 lbs. of force
  • Position requires repetitive use of feet (i.e., heat sealer, sonic cleaner).
  • Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
  • May be exposed to chemical hazards; therefore, protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
