2:30pm-11:00pmRotating weekends and holidays

Major Responsibilities:

  • Transports patients throughout the medical center either by assisting ambulatory patients by wheelchair, cart, or bed.
    •     1) Transports patient to and from the department in a timely manner using TeleTracking system to retrieve requests for trasnport.
    •     2) Calls nursing unit and inform patient’s nurse before arriving to the unit to pick up or drop off patients to ensure appropriate handoff and to minimize waiting times.
    •     3) Prepares patient for transport while waiting for nursing assistance.
    •     4) Assists with transferring of patients and provides other assistance to make transport safe and efficient.
    •     5) Ensures that patient is transported with all necessary items, ie medical chart, oxygen, splints, braces, etc
    •     6) Informs departments in a timely manner of delays and cancellations and the reasons for delays/cancellations
    •     7) Transport dead bodies from Unit or Emergency Room to the Morgue or from the Morgue to the Receiving Dock to be picked up by Chicago Police Department and documents activity in the morgue log.
    •     8)Keeps daily statistics on transporter sheet as assigned by supervisor
    •     9)Communicates patient needs or issues to nursing, department staff and supervisor as appropriate
  • Make Routine Rounds of Medical Center for carts and wheelchairs. (there is no centralized storage for transport equipment)
  • Perform Routine Rounds throughout the Hospital, picking up requisitions, specimens, and patient discharge instructions.
  • Performs duties with awareness of Patient Safety, comfort, and privacy at all times.
    •     1)Ensure Hallway Pass is completed by nurse in charge of patient for proper Patient Identification and Patient Safety includign Cheching Patient ID band.
    •     2)Clean Carts and Wheelchairs after each using CaviCide Wipes. Participate in monthly cleaning of trasnport equipment in Sterile Processing.
  • Observe patients condition and report any change to the proper personel immediately
  • Must adhere to the policies and procedures of the Patient Escort Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Required:

  • ? High school diploma or equivalent. 6 months to one year experience as a transporter

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • ? Good interpersonal and communication skills ? Knowledge of operating departmental equipment Excellent Custoemr Service skills Skills with various Age groups. Ability to read and write English.
  • ? CPR Certification within 6 months of emplyment.

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • ? Ability to work weekends, holidays and different shifts to accommodate patient need. ? Lifts 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Ability to maneuver and operate trasnport equipment. Works with infectious specimens and patients.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
