Major Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, investigates, and defines grant funding opportunities for programs/projects that align with Aurora’s priority, mission and values and provide potential return on investment for the system. Collaborates with leadership and staff to understand program/project concepts and objectives and ensures the project is suitable for specific extramural funding opportunities.
  • Plans and prepares grant proposals and grant applications for identified specific funding sources. Guides proposal development and drafts institutional proposal materials including budgets, letters of support and other required documentation.
  • Administratively reviews and analyzes proposals for consistency in program description, objectives, evaluation plan, budget and fit with grantor guidelines. Edits draft applications for accuracy, completeness and clarity in accordance with grant requirements. Facilitates the transition of funded research applications into active program management through handoff to post-award.
  • Defines roles and rules of engagement, negotiates financial relationships and helps define grant implementation responsibilities between all parties involved in grant development opportunities. Ensures the funding source's guidelines, terms and conditions can be met.
  • Completes program audit and gap analysis to determine readiness for major grant development activities and develops and implements plans to enhance the infrastructure for grant readiness in conjunction with the Aurora Foundation, Aurora Research and/or organizational leadership.
  • Serves as a resource on office performance by providing information, research, analysis, written reports and recommendations as needed regarding funding outcomes. May track their outcomes.
  • Provides educational opportunities on grants development through seminars, webinars or online courses.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Science or related field.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in grant development that includes identifying grant funding opportunities and successfully developing research grant proposals.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Skills and experience in planning, designing, evaluating, and writing grant proposals that are organized, thoughtful, and persuasive.
  • Demonstrated experience in obtaining funding for complex initiatives, including identification of funding opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge of funding requirements, laws and regulations for non-profit organizations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the basic grantsmanship techniques and strategies, preferably with a focus on research.
  • Ability to develop and give oral presentations to a variety of audience types and sizes.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with specialized fundraising and/or grant development software.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires travel throughout the city and state and may therefore result in exposure to weather and road conditions.
  • Exposed to normal office environment.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
