Full-time SPD Techs (.9 and above) are eligible for a $2,500 Sign on Bonus, paid 1/2 at 90 days and the rest at 1 year. This bonus is eligible to newly hired external applicants only (current AAH Team Members are not eligible at this time).

Major Responsibilities:

  • Promotion and support of an environment that is conducive to staff growth and development and autonomy.
    •     1)Defines, coordinates, implements, monitors and evaluates SPD orientation program.
    •     2)Provides for competency based education process for associates.
    •     3)Fosters ongoing professional development of associates by assisting with performance, assessment of needs and assisting individuals with identification of professional goals.
    •     4)Promotes participation in educational opportunities
    •     5)Develops, monitors, and evaluates the role of unit-based preceptor
  • Orientation of new Sterile Processing Department associates.
    •     1)Orient associates to department policies and procedures
    •     2)Explain job activities and tasks relative to each position
    •     3)Orient associates to specific SPD functions: Decontamination Instrument Assembly Sterilization Case Cart Assembly Equipment handling
    •     4)Promotion and support of an environment that is conducive to staff growth.
    •     5)Demonstrates, explains and monitors the activities of new orientees or personnel seeking advancement to next technical level.
    •     6)Monitors associate engagement and addresses issues or concerns to assure resolution.
  • In collaboration with the manager, manages processes that supports patient care delivery to optimize patient outcomes, customer satisfaction, and resource management.
    •     1)Communicates changes in practice and ensures changes are incorporated into daily activities.
    •     2)Monitors and evaluates unit compliance with regulatory agency requirements.
    •     3)Assumes responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor, in conjunction with the manager.
    •     4)Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for staff.
    •     5)Monitors associate engagement and addresses issues or concerns to assure resolution.
    •     6)Monitors customer satisfaction in collaboration with the manager.
    •     7)In conjunction with manager, participates in goal setting and process improvement initiatives.
    •     8)Supports and serves as resource to affiliated schools.
  • Responsibility for professional growth and development
    •     1)Stays current on sterilization standards via literature, education events, internal and external resources, and networking.
    •     2)Participates in activities to enhance professional growth, such as involvement in professional organizations and continuing education
    •     3)Partners with Infection Control to assure alignment
    •     4)Promote staff certification.
  • Performs all SPD Tech I and II accountabilities when assigned.
    •     1)Acts as a resource on instrument identification, appropriate use, location and availability.10

Education/Experience Required:

  • CSPDT, CST preferred. 3+ years Surgical environment experience 1+ years teaching or supervisory experience pref.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good working knowledge of computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office, e-mail and hand held technology. Good communication skills.
  • CSPDT, CST preferred with current Professional State Licensure under IDFPR.

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift/and or move surgical instrument trays 30-40 lbs. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints and in difficult situations. Exposed to hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens. 24 hour – 7 day availability. Ability to prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests.
