- Manages, develops, implements and evaluates the standards of care in a specialty area to facilitate quality patient care, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- 1)Maintains accurate preference cards for the assigned surgical specialty which utilizes resources.
- 2)Collaborates with the Surgery Leadership Team to resolve interdisciplinary conflicts.
- 3)In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, Team Clinical Leaders assures that intra-operative compliance with regulatory agencies is met.
- 4)Acts as a clinical resource to OR staff and other hospital departments.
- 5)Evaluates OR Turnover Times and assists the Scheduler Coordinator/OR Manager to meet designated turnover time targets for specific cases.
- 6)Leads and Particpates in unit-based process improvement projects.
- 7)Assumes responsibility for direct patient care.
- 8)Collaborates with Anesthesia to provide the necessary anesthesia care.
- Promotes and supports an environment that is conducive to staff growth, development and autonomy.
- 10)Responsible for mentoring and coaching team members. Develop a team member to be a resource to provide coverage when on vacation.
- 1)Defines and implements service-specific orientation programs in conjunction with the Clinical Manager and Educator which augments the intra-operative orientation classes.
- 2)Provides ongoing feedback to Clinical Manager regarding orientee performance.
- 3)Provides competency-based education processes for staff.
- 4)Fosters ongoing professional development of staff by assisting with performance and assessment of needs and assisting individuals with identification of professional goals.
- 5)Accountable for assuring intra-operative staff are educated on essential components of surgical specialty for off-shift and on-call assignments.
- 6)Provides/ assists the manager with input for the team members during their evaluation process.
- 7)Collaborates with OR Schedulers, Inventory Supervisor, OR Manager and Schedule Coordinator to assure appropriate vendor or outside representatives or proctoring physicians, observers adhere to OR/Advocate policies/procedures • Verify appropriate vendor is in requested OR and not soliciting other physicians • Communicate and enforce Vendor Policy.
- 8)Participates and/or leads unit/hospital activities such as educational opportunities and Shared Governance Teams.
- 9)Collaborate with Surgical Services Leadership Team to provide updated and continual self/team education for Key Result Areas (KRA’s).
- Is accountable for appropriate resource utilization within surgical specialty.
- 1)Coordinate and evaluate new supplies / equipment. Reviews and recommends products based on results of evaluation with Leadership team.
- 2)Review Inventory on specialized supply carts; remove outdated supplies, bring soon-to-be-outdated items to the attention of Perioperative Business Manager/OR Supply Supervisor for immediate use or possible return to vendor. Communicate re-ordering of supplies to suppy chain, & develop/evaluate PAR levels.
- 3)Regularly reviews assigned specialty surgeon supply requests with surgeons identifying opportunities for standardization and cost-effective utilization.
- 4)Reviews surgical procedures times with surgery schedulers and coordinator to ensure an accurate OR schedule.
- 5)Reviews staffing requests for specialty utilizing appropriate level of caregivers in an efficient manner.
- 6)Fosters a collaborative relationship with Sterile Processing (SPD). Communicates with Sterile Processing Department (SPD) regarding instrumentation needs including special instructions for care/handling/cleaning/sterilization for assigned specialty services.
- 7)Serves as a liaison for vendor or sales representative per physician request.
- 8)Assists with developing proposals for Capital Requests
- 9)Accountable to the departments KRA’s and to assist with associate engagement as part of a team effort to achieve the desired results.
Licensure:
- Nurse, Registered (RN)
Education/Experience Required:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Three years nursing experience in operating rooms. Effective 7/1/2015: New Hires and transfers from other sites – BSN preferred, ADN with agreement to enroll in BSN completion program in two years to be completed in five years. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Earn 10.0 continuing education credits annually
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Clinically appropriate skills. Ability to cooperate and work well with internal / external customers. Communication skills.
- Current licensure in the State of Illinois as Registered Nurse. CPR Certification.
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to patient-focused care. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time constraints. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases. Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients (up to 50 lbs. may be required) (medium). Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays. Ability to transport objects from one location to another. Ability to be on-call as assigned. This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated.
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
