Major Responsibilities:
- Takes and receives referrals and inquiries for HME and Respiratory services in accordance with established policies and admission criteria. Insures the timely and efficient transmission of referrals to appropriate operational areas that will have a direct impact on customer satisfaction, increased cash and revenue, and reduced bad debt write off.
- Provide quality customer service for all customers, including patients, physicians. Referral sources and coworkers within Advocate Health Care, Advocate at Home and external customers.
- Be proficient in the use of the computerized resources and data entry programs involving proper processing and qualifying of patients with clients with HME/RT needs.
- Identify, investigate and verify sources of reimbursement and make recommendations based on the information obtained.
- Provide pricing information to explain the financial responsibility to patients.
- Participate in performance improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives.
Education/Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). 5 years medical billing or collections, medical claims processing experience, insurance verification or home care customer service. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and DX coding. 1-3 years Knowledge of HME/RT equipment. Understanding of third party payors, including Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies. Some medical data entry experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Ability to operate data entry keyboard and 10 key calculator Working knowledge of PC with experience in work processing or spreadsheet applications. Good math skills. Good knowledge of billing and third party reimbursement. Ability to understand broader scope of operations and adapt to changes accordingly. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Including good diction and handling language skills. Proficient in English language skills. Excellent customer service skills and phone etiquette. Orientation to detail and accuracy Computer/data entry experience. Ability to perform in a fast pace, diverse environment. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Requires minimal supervision. Adapts approach in all interactions.

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Travel to other Advocate locations and outside seminars and meetings in all weather conditions on all types of roads. Ability to work flexible hours with possibility of overtime throughout the month. Ability to work independently and interface with a variety of administrative staff. Ability to identify and set priorities. Ability to know when to and then seek assistance from Supervisor or manager. Ability to work under deadlines and time constraints Ability to make decisions within specified scope of position. Ability to work flexible hours that include but not limited to: Week days, week nights, Week end, holidays, and overtime when needed. Flexible with schedule, on-call coverage, weekends and flexible hours. Ability to work in a team environment.
