The Sterile Processing Supervisor will coordinate and supervise the daily operational activities of decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization (gas, steam) and distribution of medical/surgical supplies and equipment for use throughout the entire hospital. Interview and hire new employees, assist in their orientation. Adheres to and implements policies and procedures, as well as directives from the manager. Plans for growth of department and/or staff. In absence of manager is responsible for operation of Sterile Processing Department.
Monday-Friday 3pm-11:30pm shift.
Major Responsibilities:
Supervision of support personnel to assure efficient utilization of staff activities.

Monitor all sterilizing, decontamination, cleaning, processing, storage and delivery of supplies.

Prepare work schedule to assure appropriate staff coverage.

Coordinate daily assignments, make adjustments to accommodate work flow.

Adhere to hospital and departmental policies; document any actions taken.

Prepares time cards appropriately and timely.

Tracks work flow and productivity using daily count sheets on sterilization.
Select, orientate, develop, evaluate and maintain a highly motivated staff.

Interview candidates, select most appropriate and experienced candidates.

Supervise Lead, Instrument and Processing Technicians; provide support and recognize potential for growth.

Conduct performance reviews.
Oversees inventory of supplies.

Maintains adequate par levels of all case cart supplies; assures that appropriate inventories are maintained for OR, ASC, L&D, Cath Lab.

Monitors linen, adjusts levels to meet surgical needs.

Oversees SPD instruments, maintains par levels; orders as necessary.
Adheres to quality control standards.

Ensures that all procedures are followed for safe use of all equipment.
Responsible for assisting SPD Manager in budget management and performance and fiscal oversight of all areas of responsibility.

Assist SPD Manager in developing annual operating budgets (revenue, expense, activity and FTEs budgeted and actual)

Assist SPD Manager in developing capital budgets (maintenance and strategic capital)

Achieves performance within organizational expectations

Assist SPD Manager in ensuring that all departmental expenses are processed appropriately, timely, and according to Advocate’s financial control policy and corporate compliance guidelines

Appropriately manages budgeted vs. actual FTEs, open requisitions and profile processing, performance reviews within policy guidelines of 30 days or less

Assist SPD Manager in monitoring budgets, investigates and reports on any reasons for variances

Assist SPD Manager in maintaining an up-to-date chargemaster for the area; maintains up-to-date RVUs/cost standards in TSI; and assures that revenue drops appropriately on a daily basis.
Education/Experience Required:
2-3 years supervisory experience. Some leadership.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Good communication skills. Good work attitude and demonstrate an ability to work with others. Knowledge of med/surg procedures, infection control principles, microbiology, sterilization, decontamination and surgical instrumentation.
CRCST Certification or CSPDT required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Attend seminars and workshops to maintain current knowledge in field as well as through journals and in-services. Keep self updated on ETO regulations in order to maintain proper environment and techniques used for patient, physician and employee safety. May require heavy lifting (Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly). May be exposed to hazardous materials. Availability 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
