Job Summary:

The Trauma RN Injury Prevention Specialist dually serves in the Trauma Service to generate data collection, analysis and reporting in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements as to maintain IDPH Level 1 Trauma designation, and participates in educational projects within the hospital, other healthcare partners and outside communities to improve care delivery and injury prevention initiatives for our patient population

The Specialist examines/analyses care delivery of the injured patient in accordance with all regulatory requirements. Collaborates closely with System, IDPH and Region initiatives to evaluate care quality/delivery, and as part of a cycle of on-going performance improvement.

Collaborates with Trauma Coordinator in identifying, creating and implementing performance improvement projects in the care of the injured patient, locally or within the Region or AAH.

In collaboration with the Trauma Services Team, ensures compliance of required data collection and maintenance as to maintain IDPH Level 1 Trauma Center designation

Acts as liaison of Trauma Services for trauma related educational offerings

Facilitates and participates in Trauma Grand Rounds, Emergency Preparedness exercises, including activities related to traumatic injuries or disease process.

Acts as liaison of Trauma Services to Injury Prevention/Outreach in accordance with regulatory agency requirements. Participates in local, regional and statewide projects and initiatives.

Collaborates to provide outreach and injury prevention activities with various community partners.

Participates in IDPH, or other committees as a representative of Trauma Services as determined by the Trauma Coordinator / Manager Trauma Services.

Position Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Current IL RN license
  • BSN required
  • Current AHA BLS, PALS and ACLS. Current TNS and ECRN certifications
  • 2 years clinical experience in ED, or ICU with Trauma Care at IDPH Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center
  • Demonstrated experience in educating others. Keen ability to evaluate your audience and tailor education and interactions to meet their needs
  • Previous experience with the IDPH Trauma Registry preferred -ability to coordinate Injury Prevention activities
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills – self directed and ability to be autonomous
  • Ability to manage computer spreadsheets, databases, and statistical processing software -familiarity with all Microsoft Office software
  • Possess positive and consistent interpersonal and professional communication skills
  • Must be flexible with regard to hours, willing to provide off-shift support to both nursing and ancillary associates
  • Able to develop and maintain positive and consistent community relationships within and outside of the trauma and EMS communities
  • Lift requirements as pertaining to the job of moving equipment for data collection, record keeping or creating educational sessions.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
