About the Role:

The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to work in an autonomous, positive work environment, be motivated to learn from multiple clinicians to acquire new skills, and will thrive working with a collaborative team comprised of 5 attendings, 14 Advanced Practice Clinicians and Neurosurgery residents.

Opportunity to experience all aspects of Neurosurgery including: Complex Spine, Skull base, Minimally invasive surgery, Endovascular treatment of Neuro vascular disorders, Pediatric Neurosurgery and Neuro trauma.

Must be willing to working nights autonomously and be motivated to learn and collaborate with multiple providers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and initiate work up for new outpatient consultations

  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals

  • Work collaboratively with the Neurosurgery team to maintain timely and appropriate communication with family members house staff other disciplines and ancillary services

  • No call environment

  • Formulate a medical plan for the patient and reviewing the plan with the rounding provider

  • Assist with coding and billing compliance

  • Participate in quality improvement and/or research initiatives for specific patient population as appropriate

Education/Experience Required:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent as a Physician Assistant effective January 1, 2018 and 1 year PA experience in the relevant setting preferred
  • Open to new graduates

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency with an Electronic Medical Record
  • Current Certification (NCCPA)
  • Current licensure in the State of Illinois
  • Current Illinois Controlled Substance License within 6 months of hire
  • Eligible for DEA registration Possession of a current DEA Registration within six months of hire and may vary based on practice site
  • Current BLS Certification Current PALS/ACLS certification may vary based on practice site
  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to work varying hours and shifts to meet the needs of Advocate Health Care.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations. Able to respond quickly to patient needs

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Able to respond quickly to patient needs. Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations. Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients. Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick. This position can recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of patient age groups; i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and looks for signs of normal aging.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
