Major Responsibilities:
- Works with pharmacist to provide accurate and timely medications to patients.
- 1) New and refill order filling
- 2) Omnicell refilling and loading.
- 3) Unit dose cart fills and exchanges.
- 4) Compounding medications as needed
- 5) Understands the pharmaceutical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in prescribing and dispensing of prescriptions
- 6) Has knowledge of pharmaceutical balance and demonstrates knowledge of weight and volume calculations to prepare compounded prescriptions
- 7) Responds to phone call inquiries and "walk up" service requests, resolving issues or directing them appropriately
- 8)Responds to medication requests with filling the request, determining possible reasons for missing dose or making inquiry phone call if necessary.
- Ability to prepare sterile admixtures using aseptic technique under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist.
- 1) Demonstrates understanding of aseptic technique according to accepted protocols and procedures outlined by the department
- 2) Calculates doses accurately to prepare IV parenteral products
- 3) Performs correct cleaning procedures for IV hood and aseptic preparation areas.
- Performs general Pharmacy tasks related to medication control, delivery, and processing.
- 3) Can pick up orders and deliver medications to units as necessary.
- 4) Can help with the restocking of supplies into selected areas as necessary
- 5) Maintains work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- 6) Delivers controlled substances to nursing units and/or departments per protocol
- 7) Works with pharmacist to maintain efficient work flow, e.g. reroute medications when patients are transferred, and assist in prioritizing work load.
- 1) Performs emergency/crash cart restocking according to department protocols
- 2) Can check in, label and put away drug orders and supplies as necessary
- Performs floor stock duties as assigned.
- 1) Performs monthly floor stock inspections for assigned areas that follow standard of practice guidelines for medication storage, control, and dating.
- 2) Performs duties related to controlled substance checks for assigned areas as determined by current department procedures and protocols
- 3)Performs monthly floor stock maintenance for assigned areas by removing expired medications, unloading inactive medications, rotating stock, reviewing and then updating par level appropriately
- Performs computer tasks correctly according to current department policies.
- 1) Can use the computer system in the department to generate labels, process refills, enter charges and credits, and other designated computer functions as determined by current department standards.
- 2) Maintains the necessary documentation for quality performance assurance on assigned tasks
- 3) Can use the OCRA, Omnicell, and CSM system computer to generate reports and complete assigned tasks.
- 4) Can use PC and other computers to complete assigned tasks and learning modules.
- 5)Can use prepackaging system computer to prepackage oral medications and/or print barcode labels.
- 6)Can complete tasks in Simplifi system computer for appropriate documentation
- 7)Can use Caremobile system to test scan product barcode to ensure product will scan successfully on administration.
- Maintains appropriate licensure requirements, continuing education requirements, age competency requirements, and updates knowledge base and skills on an ongoing basis.
- 1) Participates in department and focus group meetings.
- 2) Participates in educational programs and inservices.
- 3) Completes competency requirements successfully.
