Primarily a 1st shift position, but the teammate is expected to be able to cover off shifts for coverage purposes including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Location: Christ Medical Center; Oak Lawn, IL.

Full Time; Various Shifts

~~Pay Period week 1: Sat/Sun 7am-7:30 pm and Monday and Tuesdays 7am-3:30pm

~~Pay Period week 2: Sat/Sun 7pm-7:30 am and Thursday and Fridays 7am-3:30pm

Major Responsibilities:

  • General maintenance activities for all AMG buildings and practice sites.
    •     Performs electrical tasks including installation of conduit, wire, fixtures, junction boxes, replacement of bulbs, ballasts, diffusers, switches, plugs, receptacles, and cover plates. Perform troubleshooting and repair to motor controls, electrical distribution systems and fire alarm equipment.
    •     Replaces floor, wall, and ceiling tiles. Ability to install new ceiling grid systems as well as new floor installations.
    •     Performs major plumbing repairs, i.e., replacement of sinks, commodes, clearing of blocked drains and replacement of piping, ejector pumps, sump pumps, etc. Knowledge of shutoff valve location for water, (heating & domestic) sprinkler, vacuum, oxygen and medical air systems. Installs plumbing systems. Perform repair, installation and maintenance to sprinkler systems.
    •     Operates power tools, i.e., electric drill, drill press, sander, saws, rodders, hoists, material handling equipment, cleaning equipment, grinder, pipe threaders, cutters, and benders.
    •     Utilizes hand tools proficiently.
    •     Responds and remedy heating and cooling requests. Adjust control devices as needed. Knowledge of boiler and chiller operations. Ability to repair HVAC controls.
    •     Performs a variety of cleanup tasks according to directions i.e., sweep and mop floors, dust and wipe, empty trash, organize, inventory, and requisition equipment and supplies.
    •     Installs general equipment i.e., bulletin boards, shelving, BP apparatus, pictures, soap dispensers
    •     Performs major repair to clinical equipment i.e., exam tables, carts, wheelchairs, cleaning equipment, etc.
  • Moving/relocation duties
    •     moves/relocates practice sites and offices including clinical equipment, furniture and boxes
  • Timely response to emergency requests for service
    •     Assists and coordinates with outside vendors in restoring electrical, HVAC, and plumbing emergencies.
    •     Participates in snow and ice removal ensuring the safety of patients and associates
    •     Performs emergency repairs on site as needed
  • Coordination of work activities with requesting entities
    •     Maintains positive working relationship with all sites of care
  • Documentation of work activities
    •     Maintains accurate records of routine service, preventive maintenance and special projects

Education/Experience Required:

  • High school graduate or GED, PLUS training required for STATIONARY ENGINEERS license REQUIRED
  • Three years of experience working with boilers, pumps, H.V.A.C. systems and associated equipment in a large institution or major facility or equivalent education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Skilled in the proper use of power tools and test equipment Specifics in one trade General knowledge of maintenance, repairs, installations and procedures
  • Current City of Chicago, City of Elgin or National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) stationary engineers license. Current State of Illinois driver’s license Hires prior to 10/1/2017 license required within 1 year

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel. Ability to walk, climb, push, pull, bend, and reach. May be exposed to hazardous materials and toxic substances. Ability to work in extreme cold or hot working conditions and confined spaces. Ability to work on electrical circuits up to 220 VAC. Ability to work rotating shifts and day of the week including holidays.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
