Schedule Details/Additional Information:
1st shift position, Monday thru Friday 7am-330pm. Must be able to cover all shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Operates, maintains, repairs and installs (as assigned) campus electrical, fire alarm and suppression systems, medical air, vacumm and medical gas systems and pneumatic tube system in a manner that optimizes efficiency, reliability and safety per department policies and procedures.
- 3)Performs equipment rounds per standing instructions to insure all equipment is operating properly, investigating all abnormalities.
- 4)Properly, documents all findings and actions taken in the computerized maintenance system.
- 5)Maintains proper security of the equipment rooms while on duty
- 6)Maintains knowledge of emergency procedures associated with fires, equipment failures, or other disruptions of utilities and executes those procedures in a timely, safe and correct manner. Off shift engineers may need to assume a leadership role during these emergencies until relieved by a facilities department lead mechanic, engineer or manger.
- 7)Operates and monitors emergency generators and associated automatic transfer switches as needed in the event of an electric power failure.
- 1)Maintains accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress and completed work through log books and computerized maintenance system.
- 2)Utilizes computer based monitoring systems to monitor electrical useage, tube system and other systems adjust and otherwise control building systemst. Respond to alarms in a timely and correct manner. Optimize operation using trending reports as appropriate.
- Performs preventive maintenance on electrical generators, electrical systems and equipment, mechanical, fire alarm and suppression systems and other equipment as assigned per established procedures including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs ,rebuilding ,or replacing parts/components to insure that systems remain within the established operating parameters.
- 1)Properly documents all actions through log books and computerized maintenance management system.
- 2)Completes assigned PMs by the established deadlines.
- 3)Reports problems that cannot be resolved during the PM inspections using the computerized maintenance management system and log book as appropriate.
- 4)Reports significant problems to the Lead Electrician or the Manager in a timely and accurate manner.
- 5)Cleans and, if appropriate, paints assigned equipment and electrical rooms to maintain a safe professional appearance of those work spaces.
- Performs equipment repairs and/or installations or replacements as assigned or as required by the situation in a timely and workmanlike fashion.
- 1)Troubleshoots electrical equipment, tube system, med gas, fire alarm and suppresion system problems or failures to determine and repair the cause of the failure in a timely manner.
- 2)Executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to the hospital and patient care. Appropriately requests assistance as warranted by the situation.
- 3)Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner and takes appropriate corrective action. Keeps requester appraised of the status of corrective action.
- 4)Documents actions taken in the computerized maintenance management system and log books.
- 5)Follows proper safety and infection control procedures.
Education/Experience Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent plus trade school or apprenticeship training Three years maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting and installing electrical/mechanical equipment and systems and associated equipment in a medical center, large campus or industrial setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems from low voltage to 4160 Volt systems, emergency generators and transfer switches, the electrical side of all building equipment and controls.
- Current State of Illinois drivers license IMSA Fire Alarm Level 1 Certification or equivalent within 1 year
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Will be required to work any shift including weekends and holidays. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with physical demands. Ability to work in extreme heat and temperature variations Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to move, climb, bend, reach, push and pull, as related to job activities. Understanding and knowledge of electrical hazards related to job activities.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
