Previous ED or ICC experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient care as directed by nursing and medical staff.
    •     3)Maintain current competencies as determined by Immediate Care Center leadership including, but not limited to wound cleansing and dressing, applying orthopedic splints and devices, fitting and educating patients on the use of ambulation devices, applying oxygen, apply cardiac monitoring leads, assessment of vital signs, and collection of blood, urine and stool specimens.
    •     4)Complete appropriate patient care record documentation.
    •     5)Assist in the initial triage and prioritizing of patients; assist in ongoing assessments and alert the provider or nurse of changes in condition.
    •     6)Assists patients with mobility as needed.
    •     7)Immediate Care Center technicians who possess Paramedic licensure in the State of Illinois and demonstrate competency, may initiate and discontinue IV saline locks as ordered by the provider or nurse.
    •     8)Perform point of care quality control as specified by current policy and procedure
    •     1)Perform patient care within the scope of practice as directed by the provider and nurse.
    •     2)Assists provider and nurse within the scope of competencies.
  • Ensure that patient care areas, storage rooms, and equipment are clean and maintained.
    •     1)Ensure cleanliness and organization for equipment and supplies throughout all patient care areas and clean / dirty utility rooms throughout the ICC in compliance with infection control / universal precaution policy and procedures.
    •     2)Monitors department equipment for malfunction / damage and facilitates removal from service and requests repair service from the appropriate department.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of equipment needed for patient care.
    •     1)Assure adequate quantity of medical supplies and linen in the Immediate Care Center by stocking at the beginning of the shift and as needed throughout the shift.
    •     2)Monitors supply inventory and informs appropriate person(s) for ordering.
  • Assist with clerical functions.
    •     1)Fax, copy, and print documents associated with continuum of patient care.
    •     2)Answer phone calls; assists in completing patient call-backs.
    •     3)Perform basic computers skills including electronic patient care record entry

Education/Experience Required:

  • 2+ years of hospital patient care or pre-hospital patient care experience or completion of 1 year of nursing school clinical rotations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to use keyboard, see computer screen.
  • Current CPR certification

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires completion of the age specific competency May experience unpleasant odors, exposures to blood-borne, air-borne pathogens, and opportunistic pathogens. May travel from one Good Samaritan ICC location to the other to meet staffing requirements. May be required to stay later than scheduled hours to meet staffing and patient care demands. High level of stress due to unpredictable patient volumes and degree of critical services needed
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
