PRN Host/Hostess working 1-3 shifts a weekWorking 4pm-8pmRotating weekends and holidays.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensures physician’s diet orders are met by maintaining current and accurate patient card files and following specific standards for diet compliance.
    • Processing Diet Orders • Follows physician’s diet orders for all patients • Updates and maintains accurate patient card files in automated diet office. • Adheres to specific standards for diets when entering selections into computer or in modifying and checking menus. • Updates and maintains nourishment orders to ensure diet orders are met.
  • Utilizes CBORD and Care Connection to achieve meal selection, process diet orders and changes.
    • Communication: • Assists patients with room service when appropriate for all assigned patients/units • Communicates effectively when assisting patients and/or family with menu selections • Communicates between nursing, room service operators and kitchen staff in order to clarify orders and provide prompt service. • Communicates special patient needs to dietitians
    • CBORD (computer) use: • Seeks new training/knowledge of CBORD. • Utilizes manuals and technical support. • Can perform all host/hostess positions accurately
    • Training/Inservices/Meetings: • Assists with training of other employees • Attends scheduled inservices and meetings.
  • Provides high quality patient service in distributing patient trays and nourishments
    • Cart and Tray Delivery and Pick-up: • Distributes patient meals; verifies diet and meal accuracy at point of service • Retrieves soiled meal trays from patient areas and transports them designated cart
    • Nourishments: • Delivers nourishments to assigned patients • Delivers bulk nourishments to assigned unit kitchens • Properly stores delivered bulk nourishments in unit kitchens
    • Other: • Upholds Advocate Lutheran General Hospital's Service Commitment through equality, compassion, excellence, partnership and stewardship. • Uses courtesy and respect in all interactions with managers, co-workers, patients, staff and visitors. • Maintains professional image and follows department dress code policy • Demonstrates a caring attitude with patients, families and guests • Responds positively to all requests seeking to maximize the dining experience • Communicates wrong or missing items to the kitchen • Communicates patients' needs to nursing • Documents intakes on patients • Documents calorie counts for designated patients • Performs additional miscellaneous duties, communicating status to supervisor.

Education/Experience Required:

  • 6 months to 1 year experience in hospitality industry or customer service experience preferable

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently
  • Basic computer skills (ie data entry)
  • Math skills: conversions of oz, cc, ml
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Flexible work hours between 5:00 A.M. and 8:30 P.M. including weekends and holidays. • Ability to walk for significant periods of time when going to patient’s rooms. • Limited exposure to hazardous conditions. • Safety and sanitation when entering patient’s rooms or kitchen. • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously especially during peak hours. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance and/or 10 to 15 pounds frequently.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
