Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Monday- Friday 7am-3:30pm or when it snows. On call for snow removal.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Cuts and trims grass, removes weeds, repairs damaged lawns, plants and prunes shrubs, flowers, bushes, etc. Waters landscaped areas, grass, plants, and flowers. Rakes and blows leaves.
  • Assists in the design and recommendation of landscaping options.
  • Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
  • Cleans, power washes, and sweeps the sidewalks, parking lots, and surrounding paved areas. Treats and applies sealants to sidewalks, asphalt, and wood.
  • Removes snow and ice, and applies salt to paved areas, roadways and sidewalks. May refill the salt bins.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on gardening and grounds equipment, and sprinkler systems. Inspects, identifies, and reports signs that need repair.
  • Removes and transfers trash/garbage from the facility area. Removes debris and assists in maintaining a clean, orderly appearance of the property.
  • Moves furniture and equipment throughout the facility and/or to offsite locations.
  • Completes grounds condition reports on a regular basis.
  • May assist in cleaning out and removing icicles from rain gutters.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Education Required:

  • No Formal Education.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in groundskeeping that includes experience in landscaping, snow removal, moving furniture and/or operating and maintaining a variety of lawn and grounds equipment and sprinkler systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Current driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety standards.
  • Knowledge of methods of landscaping, occupational hazards, safety precautions, and the proper use of fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides.
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to use, service, and repair grounds equipment including but not limited to: mowers, edgers, trimmers, etc.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to problem solve.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, climb, and reach above shoulders at various times throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to:
  • lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead.
  • lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest-level.
  • lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to:
  • push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
  • Exposed to mechanical, chemical and explosive hazards therefore protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures ranging from 0( to 120(F along with rain, sleet and snow.
  • Atmosphere may contain dust, odors and fumes.
  • Position requires travel, therefore may be exposed to road and weather hazards.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
