Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Casual role: April – July Monday, Wednesday and some Saturdays
Work with Team Phoenix leadership and Head Coach to support the vision, leadership and strategic planning while assisting in the direction and supervision of all activities relative to teaching, training and skill development of cancer survivor-athletes. Support Team Phoenix’s mission of fostering an environment which is focused on the physical, personal and social development of cancer survivors as well as instilling habits of life long fitness.
Follow the policies and expectations of all AH employees. All training plans, data bases, media and communication will be owned exclusively by AH and will be used exclusively for Team Phoenix purposes.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for adhering to the USAT triathlon training guidelines, formats and current industry standards keeping health (physical, emotional and social), wellness, and safety as the foremost priority.
- Support the head coach to implement all training plans to accommodate a range of athletic ability to safely and successfully train for and complete the season end goal activity
- Responsible for coordinating coverage for community and medical volunteers to assure safe and successful training of all individual athletes
- Help coordinate educational sessions (recruit AH and community experts) regarding nutrition, bike technique, run technique, and swim technique
- Help coordinate with program director on apparel and incentive orders based on the needs of the group
- Support Head Coach to effectively coordinate training sessions by communicating information regarding training and races to athletes, alumnae, community/medical volunteers, and leadership team: training plans via online app, binder resource materials, weekly newsletter, reminder emails for special training sessions, at group training sessions
- Help to communicate training goals to medical/alumnae volunteers so that they can best instruct and support athletes at training sessions, track athlete progress at training sessions and individualize instruction as needed in order to assure athletes meet weekly benchmarks
- Communicate with the head coach and leadership team on progress of the individual athletes and any concerns (medical, emotional, social or physical)
- Communicate with athletes to support, motivate and answer questions in a timely manner throughout the training season
- Help to set up training session sights to assure safe and successful training for each athlete
- Responsible for administering and following aquatic procedures and guidelines.
- Available to assist members and guests of the facility at all times.
- Responsible for keeping the deck clean and clear of obstacles at all times.
- Ensure equipment is being used and stored properly.
- Complete aquatic facility maintenance as assigned.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Lifeguarding certification issued by the American Red Cross, and
- CPR/AED for professional rescuers and health care providers certification issued by the American Red Cross.
- Triathlon Coach certification preferred but not required (USAT, IronMan, or another approved certification authority)
- Nursing/Physical Therapy/Athletic Trainer license preferred but not required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by an approved certification authority needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
- CPR/AED for professional rescuers and health care providers certification issued by the American Red Cross preferred
- Lifeguarding certification issued by the American Red Cross require
Education Required:
- High School Graduate
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge and application of basic rescue and surveillance techniques.
- An understanding of facility policies and procedures.
- Leadership qualities and public/member relation skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently.
- Must have functional senses: sight, hearing, touch, and speech. Ability to determine colors.
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs at waist height a reasonable distance.
- Ability to move quickly and assist others in an emergency situation. Ability to effectively handle stressful situations.
Must be available:
- March 17th – April 14th Wed evenings 5:45pm-8:15pm
- April – July 28th on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6pm-8:30pm to help lead group training in the Metro Milwaukee area
- Thursday July 10th 6pm-8:30pm (Little Muskego Lake) and Saturday July 12th 7am-12pm (Ottawa Lake State Park)
- Sunday, July 27th for the triathlon event at Ottawa Lake State Park
