Schedule Details/Additional Information:
General hours are 8 to 4:30 with occasional early or late meetings. There are no holiday or weekend hours. This position is a hybrid with remote and in office day
Major Responsibilities:
- Manages the process of appointments, reappointments and credentialing for the medical staff, including dentists, podiatrists and advanced practice clinicians. In conjunction with the Advocate Aurora Credentials Verification Services, ensures compliance with the Joint Commission, DNV, HFAP, CMS, OSHA, State and Federal requirements, and other standards and regulations including Medical Staff Bylaws and the Policies of the Advocate Aurora Hospitals.
- Ensures accurate documentation and verification of information in the Medical Staff Office and individual physician files is in compliance with regulatory standards and the bylaws of the medical staff. Ensures compliance with National Practitioners Data Bank Guidelines.
- Organizes and directs major revisions to Medical Staff Bylaws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations, in collaboration with the Bylaws Committee, legal counsel and other appropriate bodies.
- Acts as a resource to the site administrator and medical staff leadership in determining strategies for handling unusual medical staff situations.
- Designs and implements systems for compiling, maintaining, and retrieving complete and confidential records relating to all activities of the medical staff to meet the requirements of Accreditation Bodies, the Medical Staff Bylaws, and those of any other regulatory agencies. This includes individual credential files of physicians, dentists, and advanced practice clinicians and records of staff, department, section, and committee meetings.
- Directs and oversees coordination and support for all medical staff committees, including scheduling, notification, agenda preparation, minute recording and other functions necessary to facilitate the effective functioning of the committees.
- Provides timely response and service to all members of the medical staff, administration, and others in order to ensure service management excellence. Acts as liaison between departments, committees, sections, and the Medical Executive Committee.
- Manages issues involving physician wellness, corrective action and fair hearing processes, in collaboration with legal counsel and other appropriate bodies.
- Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
- Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Credentialing Specialist, Certified Provider (CPCS) issued by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS), or
- Medical Services Management, Certified Professional (CPMSM) issued by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).
Education Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration or related field.
Experience Required:
- Includes 5 years of management experience in Medical Staff Services management, credentialing, physician relations, and/or regulatory.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to successfully develop and maintain multiple, complex relationships across hospital administration, medical staff, senior executives, Governing Boards/Councils, and corporate staff. High degree of tact and judgment with insight into the many facets of the medical staff organization and hospital administration
- Knowledge of accreditation standards.
- Excellent human resource management skills.
- Strong understanding of processes and regulations related to Medical Staff credentialing, privileging and peer review.
