Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Needs to have Flexibility Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM. Ideally will work 3 days a week, two at Summit and one at Waukesha clinic. Will discuss schedule further during interview.
- Communicates with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirm acknowledgment of patients’ understanding and address any questions or concerns.
- Reviews patient’s medical record to confirm the ordered test. Maintains active communication with physicians to identify and accommodate specific preferences in testing procedures and protocols.
- Prepares the patient for the procedure, applying a variety of surface electrodes in the appropriate locations as needed for the nerve conduction study. Stimulating electrodes are similarly applied and shocks are administered to elicit the evoked responses. Measurements are made of distances between landmarks and electrodes, amplitudes and latencies of responses, and temperatures. The responses are recorded for the physician to review. Consults with the physician during the procedure when needed.
- Distinguishes between normal and abnormal results and recognizes physiological and non-physiological artifacts, and documents, eliminates or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact.
- Maintains records and documentation ensuring it is accurate and contains all necessary data elements when entering patient information into the computer system.
- Organizes and prepares exam room / work area, including cleaning, stocking, and ordering supplies.
- Performs routine care, cleaning and calibration of equipment and ensure it is functioning properly. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:
- High School Graduate.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Advanced training beyond high school in electromyography.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, diseases related to electro-diagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics, and electrical safety.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly change priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to stand/walk for majority of the day.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Must have ability to use hands for fine manipulation, specifically in application of electrodes.
- Must have functional hearing and speech ability for effective communication as well as good vision and touch for performing tasks.
- Exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
