Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare annual memos and whitepapers for impairment analyses, consolidation considerations, JV analyses, related party assessments, loss contingencies, held-for-sale classification, etc., ensuring compliance with FASB and GASB standards. 
  • Maintain a comprehensive Advocate Health policy library to consistently apply FASB and GASB reporting requirements.
  • Review and document changes in reporting regulations under FASB and GASB.
  • Execute leadership activities to foster a positive culture within the accounting department.
  • Assist with complex technical accounting matters during audits.
  • Track, document, assess, and remediate non-GAAP items, policy inconsistencies, and financial statement errors.
  • Prepare detailed memos and whitepapers on unique or complex transactions.
  • Compile financial information as needed for transactions or ad hoc requests.
  • Coordinate planning and execution of unique transactions, such as M&A activities, in collaboration with the Controller’s Office.
  • Develop training materials on technical accounting matters for Enterprise leaders.
  • Manage quarterly accounting and reporting certification processes to identify significant unknown transactions.
  • Establish and maintain centralized policy and procedure storage accessible to all accounting staff.
  • Promote emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, within the Accounting department.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) issued by a State of Board of Accountancy 

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting 

Experience Required:

  • Requires 5 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting with a large, complex organization 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of US GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, and PCAOB standards. Significant demonstrated experience in researching accounting literature, including FASB, GASB, SEC, PCAOB and AICPA rules and regulations. Experience with internal controls over financial reporting. Demonstrated strategic influence skills, tactical planning skills, time management skills and conflict resolution skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate/collaborate effectively, particularly in virtual settings. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar products, as well as proficiency in navigating emerging technologies such as automation software and generative AI tools. Strong background and experience in the preparation and review of health care system financial statements and specific account analysis. Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze the underlying business and its implications on financial accounting and reporting. Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities within tight time frames. Strong leadership skills to initiate and drive process improvements and ability to influence others. Self-motivated, able to work independently, and capable of carrying a project through to successful completion.
