Job Summary
Responsible for providing leadership for the formation, development and optimization of all ambulatory surgery centers and physician joint venture surgery and procedural centers across Illinois. Will dedicate significant time on building physician and partner organization relationships advancing new business development to increase market share to meet consumer demands. Provides thought leadership on the position of an ambulatory surgery in AAH’s overall strategic plan and portfolio . In partnership with regional, site, physician and medical group operations leadership, this leader has responsibility for the development and execution of system capital budgets and system control expenditures within approved budget parameters to optimize the PSA ambulatory surgery center P&Ls.
Major Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with business development and is responsible for new business identification, expansion opportunities and the build-out of an Illinois ambulatory surgery center strategy as a priority, including creating growth plans for existing centers as well as new expansion including de novo centers and evaluation of joint venture relationship with physicians and other key stakeholders. Identifies areas of unmet needs across Illinois Region geographies and delivers plans to meet those needs from concept through to solution delivery. Ability to intersect with critical stakeholders, such as legal, compliance and others, in the execution of highly complex arrangements.
- Ensures alignment of all Advocate Health (AH) ambulatory surgery centers with hospital-based services, other AH services and serves as a liaison to the corporate, medical group and other system functions.
- Establishes system productivity benchmarks, and monitors industry trends to ensure services and strategies contribute to the highest quality and patient experience levels. Ensures operations and patient care at all Illinois surgery center sites are in compliance with applicable state, federal and medical center regulations.
- Ensures standardization across Illinois Region ambulatory surgery centers and integration with other AH entities to optimize efficiency, productivity, financial outcomes and human resources. Accountable for system initiatives that cut across surgery centers to accomplish growth, effectiveness, quality and patient satisfaction goals.
- Has the ability to operate in a matrix organization to design, deliver, and optimize a comprehensive ambulatory surgery strategy by involving key system stakeholders that leverages new business models and positions AH for long term success. Continuously seeks to improve and innovate clinical and operating models.
- Develops and implements short term and long term strategic initiatives that will keep AH on the forefront of responding to external, reimbursement and consumer demands, accomplished through the balance of enhancing operational efficiency of existing ambulatory surgery centers and while expanding new opportunities to facilitate growth; partners with local operations leadership, develops corrective action plans for underperforming operations while stimulating high performing centers.
- Plans and implements timely communication plans with both internal and external customers to keep them abreast of changes in an effort to promote engagement and retention including facilitating problem identification and resolution through ongoing dialogue with management and administrative staff.
- Designs and implements programs and services that optimize best practices that align with AH’s initiatives. Develops and implements an operational platform that creates consistent processes, workflows and outcomes through operational excellence measures. Partners with PSA leadership and medical group leadership to focus on both top-line and bottom-line growth.
- Serves as the organizational liaison to existing joint ventures, monitoring operational performance, fostering existing physician relationships, and ensuring there is a culture that aligns with AH.
- Performs human resources responsibilities for direct staff which include interviewing and selection of new team members, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of team member concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall team member engagement.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization’s business.
Education/Experience Required:
- Masters degree in Health Administration or Business Administration
- Typically requires a minimum of 15 years healthcare systems, including ambulatory surgery experience
- 5 or more years of management level experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Experience with and understanding of joint ventures, de novo centers and ambulatory surgery operations
- Proven ability to build and cultivate strong relationships and influence with physicians and system executives
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of ambulatory surgery operations as well as credible experience with playbook development and implementation.
- Financial acumen and experience with expansion of new sites of care
- Ability to intersect with multiple key stakeholders in the execution of highly complex arrangements
- Exceptional ability to execute on deliverables
