Schedule Details/Additional Information:
The Manager will support the frontline chaplains and the leadership team. Weekends and evenings may be required as needed to support the role.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and support at the hospital for the Mission and Spiritual Care (MSC) Department, providing for an appropriate and comprehensive ministry of spiritual care, counseling, consultation, education, worship, sacraments, and emotional support for patients, families, providers and team members. Executes to outcomes on the direction of the Vice President Mission and Spiritual Care.
  • Directly supervises MSC clinical staff and volunteers. In collaboration with Clinical Pastoral Education Certified Educators, ensures clinical coverage of the hospital. Participates in the hospital clinical coverage rotation including holiday coverage.
  • As delegated by the Vice President MSC, represents Mission and Spiritual Care in interdisciplinary hospital meetings and activities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with hospital leadership. As delegated by Vice President MSC, meets with community members and organizations, houses of worship, outside agencies and other health professionals to promote positive hospital relations.
  • Under leadership of VP MSC, responds to team member needs following crisis and/or workplace violence throughout the Patient Service area, including Advocate Medical Group practices. In partnership with EAP, provides Psychological First Aid response and other resilience building interventions. Under the leadership of the VP MSC provides for recognition and memorialization of significant events such as team member death, organizational change, or other significant events.
  • Participates in the Advocate Aurora Health Mission and Spiritual Care Leadership Team meetings. In collaboration with the VP MSC explores new and best practices to bring to the team for consideration and implementation.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.

Education Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Divinity.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in chaplaincy or CPE training for a hospital based pastoral care department that includes experiences in an acute care medical setting. Includes 1 year of supervisory experience in managing staff and budgets.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Denominational endorsement required.
  • Ability to work with and relate to a variety of constituents both internal and external.
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites of care and to administrative offices.
  • Some local and out of town travel.
  • Knowledge of clinical ethics and ethical decision making.
  • Good decision making skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk and bend throughout the workday.
  • Position requires travel therefore may be exposed to weather and road hazards.
  • Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
