Major Responsibilities:
Manages receiving and labeling of mother’s human milk and donor milk according to procedure.
1)When collecting and preparing milk/ formula performs patient identification in accordance with the system policy. Performs bar code scanning of all human milk containers using Aztec code scanning.

5)Training on using milk warmer when asked to assist with warming patient feedings. Training on Creamatocrit instrument to perform Creamatocrit measurements when requested by physician. Lactation technician needs to perform/maintain Creamatocrit QA logs. Participates in department in services to maintain appropriate competence. Perform creamatocrit measurements if requested and perform/maintain creamatocrit QA logs. Participates in department inservices to maintain appropriate competence.

2)Prepares individualized human milk feeding following always one patient at a time for safety. .

3)After rounds obtain “ticket” from RN with feeding order information and prepare feedings for a 24-hour period. After hand hygiene performed Prepares standard infant and pediatric formulas/ human milk for Advocate Children’s NICU according to recipes and follows procedures for preparation, sterilization, labeling, cooling, storage, and delivery of formulas to patient units. This associate must also provide detailed calculations for all caloric additives placed in Human milk.

4)Follows system policy for patient identification when handling, thawing, mixing, fortifying, and distributing Human Milk. Performs identification of human milk containers using Aztec code scanning.

6)Labels all supplements and formulas individually prior to distribution, including all required information as outlined in the Advocate Children’s Hospital Dietary instructions. .

7)Reviews product inventory and places requisition orders for all neonatal formulas, donor breast milk, human milk fortifiers, and other related products.

8)Stocks nutrition room with all needed supplies.Follows Hand Hygiene policy and aseptic tecnique for handling all feeding products.Tracks patient and product usage, providing feedback to manager as needed.

Maintenance of the integrity of patient care standards and unit operations.
7)Participates in Neonatal ICU Performance Improvement initiatives as requested.

1)Follows Advocate system policy for use of PPE .

2)Performs High touch cleaning as directed and performs audits for compliance

3)Labels all clean and dirty equipment after cleaning.

4)Provides a safe environment for patients

5)Disassembles and cleans various infant feeding equipment as needed. Cleans storage bins after each patient use.

6)Maintains knowledge and technical skills by attendance at in-services, unit meetings

Communication.
2)Communicates with purchasing Unit Admitting associate on ordering processes, stock issues, and reformulations.

3)Communicates with lactation consultant and manager regarding after-hours formula processes.

4)Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

1).Communicates with dietitians, lactation consultants, nurses, unit managers and physicians regarding problems with formula or human milk orders or storage.
