Schedule Details/Additional Information:
40 hours per week, M-FOn-call rotation that includes evenings, holidays and weekends

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists Manager, Director, AVP in meeting performance goals and standards established for Patient Access Departments.   
  • Assist Manager in training of all registrars in all areas of patient access.  
  • Provides guidance and feedback on employee performance through rounding, auditing and screening of registration work and various computer reports.  
  • Registers and pre-registers patients as necessary to support the team.  
  • Assist Manager with the appropriate staffing of Patient Access areas.  
  • Assist Manager with completion of performance appraisals prior to due date.  
  • Reviews and assures that employee time is recorded accurately per Advocate policy.  
  • Assists manager in keeping current a departmental record (attendance and counseling sheets) on each employee which shall include:  
    • PTO's  
    • Absent and tardy occurrences  
    • Disciplinary actions and other counseling sessions  
    • Commendable actions and incidents in support of the department and Atrium  
  • Assures that all employees attend appropriate mandatory classes annually. Documents attendance on all mandatory and employee development classes attended, and dates of each.  
  • Represents Patient Access and Patient Financial Services at designated facility on operational issues.   
  • Responsible for daily cash management and valuables function to include daily and weekly audits as appropriate for the facility.  
  • Produces various reports and feedback to manager.  
  • Interacts on as needed basis with other Atrium departments which may be impacted by the Patient Access process.  
  • Promotes a positive hospital image to patients, visitors and physicians by adhering to the Atrium Core Values of Caring, Commitment, Integrity and Teamwork.  

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 

Experience Required:

  • Background in patient access and health insurance is required.  Experience in healthcare billing, follow-up, and certification is preferred.   
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are essential. 1-3 years of supervisory experience is preferred.   

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to respond to age specific issues and data reflective of the patient’s status.   
  • Employee must be knowledgeable regarding current government and state regulations (including Medicare, Medicaid, and Tricare regulations) and able to modify procedures accordingly in order to maintain compliance.  Employee must also be knowledgeable of the differing applications of these regulations in each facility 
  • development, ability in interpersonal communications and sensitivity to teammate needs. ​​  

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to push a patient in a wheelchair and maneuver it through areas including doors, up and down ramps and elevators. Must be able to respond quickly to medical stats and emergencies occurring in Patient Access areas through physical support (i.e. escorting sick patients, rapid processing of accounts, labels and armbands).  
  • This position spends a great deal of the day working from area to area and employee may be required to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally.  
  • Work is performed in an open office with some partitioned areas. Most work is performed at a desk using telephone and computer entry. Work is subject to heavy volume and frequent interruptions either by phone or by other employees. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner.
