Location: Christ Medical Center; Oak Lawn, IL.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, troubleshoots, repairs and services complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices using established electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques.
  • Installs, calibrates, and test new medical electronic devices and/or systems.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance, performance assurance, calibration of safety testing on complex clinical equipment items, devices and systems using specialized test equipment, tools, simulation devices and phantoms.
  • Performs rounding throughout facility and interacts with clinical staff to proactively to insure needs are being met and address questions and safety issues.
  • Documents and maintains accurate records of all inspections, repairs, adjustments, etc. performed on all equipment.
  • Assists with projects, as assigned, related to refurbishment, relocation or modification of medical equipment, devices, instruments and systems.
  • Requests and/or orders necessary repair or spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships. Makes recommendations for capital equipment replacements to Clinical Engineering Leadership.
  • Interacts with manufacturer's representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information. Reviews technical literature, service manuals, trade publications and other biomedical service related documents to stay current with medical equipment related service and regulatory issues.
  • Communicates with Clinical Education regarding any new technology that may require their involvement.
  • Participates in both internal and external educational programs through professional associations, technical training courses, and seminars to develop and maintain the required current technical aptitude.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Education Required:

  • Associate's Degree in Electronics, or higher.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, design and modification of biomedical equipment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office or similar products (primarily Word and Excel). Basic knowledge of networking technology.
  • Use of personal vehicle for travel to various sites is required/ expected.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Walks the majority of the workday as well as stands, sits, lifts, bends, and reaches above shoulders throughout.
  • Must be able to:
  • lift up to 25 lbs. from floor to waist and up to 30 lbs overhead.
  • lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to:
  • push with 50 lbs. of force.
  • pull with 40 lbs. of force.
  • Working environment may contain dust/dirt, fumes, and odors.
  • Exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards as well as blood and body fluids. As a result, protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
  • Position requires travel. May be exposed to road and weather hazards.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
