Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Oversee multiple acute facilities within IL Division.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Directs and oversees the safe and compliant planning, operation, repair, maintenance and testing of heating/cooling, power plant, electrical, emergency power, fire protection systems, plumbing, grounds, and carpentry within the assigned area/market sites. Reporting any trends / anomalies to their Facilities AVP and site administrative leaders. 
  • Implements departmental operating expense budget and assures budget is maintained within acceptable parameters for each assigned site.
  • Directly responsible for development of capital infrastructure budgets, short-term and long-term (5 years) for sites within area. Responsible for maintaining approved capital infrastructure projects within budget. Collaborates with Planning, Design, and Construction to ensure conditions of plans and specifications / standards are met for construction projects.  Capital projects and physical improvements are met by contractors through field observation and progress meetings. Review and make recommendations of proposed design modifications.
  • Collaborates with site and system leaders to review and plan facility current and future operational and maintenance needs including researching new products, laws, and regulations for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts and maintaining system-wide services.
  • Oversees an accurate computer maintenance management system (CMMS) that records, stores, and retrieves repair, maintenance, and construction activities for all facilities in the region and ensures equipment and building systems are given proper maintenance through an effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Collaborates with the Energy Management Team to develop short and long-term hospital energy plans to support hospital sustainability programs, identifying opportunities for improvement, benchmarking, tracking utilities and reporting as well as assisting in grant funding and energy procurement. Drive continuous improvement and promote innovation to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
  • Responsible for the regulatory compliance and appropriate policies and procedures to assure compliance applicable to federal, state, and local ordinances / building codes at all hospitals, ambulatory clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, in the region in relation to the physical environment and life safety matters.
  • Collaborates with the Site Facilities Manager and Safety to provide oversight of administration of safety, environment of care, and emergency preparedness programs within the market / region by assessing conditions throughout the facilities through building inspections, environment rounds, safety inspections, and various performance improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Responsible for the master planning of utility infrastructure to maximize efficiencies of current facilities while providing for the future expansion by analyzing the data from facility audits, understanding the impact of repairs and renovations on existing mechanical, electrical, structural, and related systems and recommending the appropriate priorities for repairs and renovations.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale. Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's / enterprises business.
  • Provides leadership that supports a facilities training program that develops teammate growth and maintains consistency of training for specific certifications and skill sets to support a highly expertise work force. Establishes and maintains a current succession plan for each site to include all leaders and key teammates.
  • Designs and directs the work of the assigned area(s) of responsibility. Selects, coaches, and develops teams, setting objectives that align with organizational strategy to inspire and motivate the teams. Manages organizational talent through performance management, succession planning, and development. Designs and directs processes by which team and individual performance are recognized, feedback is consistently delivered, and performance is systematically improved.
  • Develops and/or recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Industry certifications and/or license specific to area of responsibility may include:                                                                 Certified Health Care Facility Manager (CHFM) issued by the American Hospital Association (AHA), Professional Engineer, Certified Facility Manager (CFM) issued by International Facility Management Association (IFMA).

Education Required:

  • Associate degree in engineering, facility maintenance, or related field.

Experience Required:

  • ​​Ten (10) years minimum work experience in facilities functions. Includes minimum of five (5) years in a leadership role, preferably in a healthcare environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • ​Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications and team building skills are required.
  • Excellent skills in mobile technology, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, scheduling software, accounting spreadsheets, computerized maintenance management and building automation.
  • Understanding of Environment of Care / regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local codes governing facilities operations and facilities safety.
  • Knowledge of construction, planning, mechanical, HVAC and electrical design and operation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Exposed to a normal office environment as well as hospital / site conditions when observing work / rounding.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or other bachelor’s degree with facilities maintenance experience will be preferred.
