Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Flexible based on school schedule to reach minimum 450 hrs for the year as required by Wisconsin Youth Apprentice program; day shift hours preferred

Major Responsibilities:

  • Learns and demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other teammates 
  • Learns and demonstrates competency in dispensing and delivery of medications. This includes developing competence in the department’s use of information systems, technology, and automation used for dispensing and storage of medications. 
  • Learns and demonstrates competency in prescription processing, including obtaining required patient information, data entry, record keeping, insurance verification and label generation 
  • Follows applicable policies and procedures to be in compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation standards 
  • Learns and participates in non-sterile and sterile compounding preparation in accordance with USP guidelines 
  • Learns and demonstrates competency in department safety strategies  
  • Follows all requirements of the Youth Apprentice program as imposed by the state in which teammate is working

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • If working in WI: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, application must be submitted prior to start date 
  • If working in IL: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, application must be submitted prior to start date with license obtained within 60 days of date of submission 
  • If working in NC:, applicant must submit a North Carolina Department of Labor Youth Employment Certificate and register as a Pharmacy Technician with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy 

Education Required:

  • ​​ Must be currently enrolled as a Junior or a Senior in a program that awards a high school diploma or GED

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb, twist, crawl and reach above shoulders  
  • Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile cart of 50 pounds maximum and lifting 35 pounds of material 
  • Must have functional vision, touch and hearing 
  • Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively  
  • Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to perform job duties and minimize exposure to hazardous agents, body fluids, and communicable diseases 
  • May be exposed to chemical hazards  
  • May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease 
  • Frequent fine motor motion of hands and wrists to perform manipulative skills such as writing, typing, data entry into the computer, and preparation of medications, including use of syringes 
  • Takes necessary precautions to avoid inadvertent needle sticks, minor cuts or bruises. Exposed to various conditions throughout the workday such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs and changes in temperature and humidity.   
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job 
  • Flexibility to travel between pharmacy locations
