As needed based on schedule needs – Days, Monday – Friday, possible early morning start, possible late-night end, and possible Saturday.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performance of comprehensive non-invasive, invasive and vascular procedures to demonstrate (OB/GYN) anatomy under investigation.
- 1)Provides physiologic assessment of OB/GYN vasculature and fetal well-being.
- 2)Independently provides technically optimal, complete and accurate images for diagnosis of the high-risk OB/GYN patient.
- 3)Combines clinical history while performing sonographic study to summarize findings of the study and upon completion of the study has the responsibility of documenting information/action to the appropriate physician
- 4)Assists physicians during invasive procedures which include amniocentesis, sonohysterograms, endometrial biopsies, and chorionic villi sampling.
- Documentation of patient history and results of study.
- 1)Reviews patient history by clinical information available from charts and one-on-one verbal review of clinical history with patient.
- 2)Summary of findings by imaging technologist must be entered onto the Perinatal computer network which requires advanced knowledge of operation of both computer hardware and software.
- 3)Notification of appropriate physician of summary of findings
- Displays competent understanding and operation of ultrasound equipment
- 1)Reports any malfunctions to the manager. If manager is unavailable, contact proper company for repairs, if needed.
- 2)Able to perform start-up and shut down procedures on all equipment
- 3)Ability to operate all ultrasound equipment in a competent manner
- 4)Able to modify technical factors as situations warrants
- 5)Ensures that images are labeled with patient identification properly
- 6)Performs problem solving as situation warrants ie equipment malfunction, and physical limitations of equipment.
- 7)Handles all equipment with care.
- Delivery of patient care
- 1)Responsible for the welfare and care of all patients directly under their control; i.e. implementation of immobilization devices as necessary for patient safety and comfort.
- 2)Introduces self and explains exam to patient.
- 3)Reconfirms patient identification with the 2 patient ID and verified procedure requested.
- 4)Uses scripting when required.
- 5)Maintains positive customer relations including proper phone etiquette.
- 6)Professional manner must be displayed in relating to patients, physicians, family members, etc. at all times.
- Displays competent understanding of patient positioning and image critique.
- 1)Ability to competently position patients for all ultrasound exams.
- 2)Perform problem solving as it relates to physical limitations of patient during patient positioning
- 3)Competent to perform film reviews to determine if more views are necessary to complete the exam.
- 4)Has minimal amount of repeat work.
- Participates in professional development.
- 1)Attends continuing education seminars and keeps abreast of current literature.
- 2)Maintains professional accreditation in ARDMS and Nuchal Translucency certification.
- 3)Attends departmental meetings.
- 4)Maintains required amount of CME credits for ARDMS
- 5)Participates in problem solving that would improve quality for the department
- 6)Maintains CPR certification
- 7)Provides directions and instruction to new staff, students, and staff in need of assistance.
- Other Duties
- 1)Ensures a secure, safe patient and work environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazard labels, pathology specimens, complete laboratory requisitions and deliveries to appropriate laboratory.
- 2)Cleans, prepares and sanitizes aspiration handles and endocavity transducers for invasive procedures and endovaginal/translabial imaging according to manufacturer recommendations and established infection controls.
- 3)Applies sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments
- 4)Maintains adequate supplies (gel, film, syringes) in US rooms and notifies manager if supplies are depleted.
- Provides technical support for smooth and efficient operation of Ultrasound Department.
- 1)Enters charges for completed procedures
- 2)Communicates with other departments to successfully schedule various exams for the patient.
- 3)Assumes lead position as necessary in the absence of Lead Technologist and/or department supervisor.
- 4)Interacts closely with the Ultrasound Team Lead and department supervisor to provide for smooth daily operation of the department.
- 5)Attends regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in-services.
- 6)Assists in orientation of Ultrasound Department personnel.
- 7)Helps in answering telephones, reviewing physician’s orders, as needed or other related duties as requested by department supervisor
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- ARDMS-Registered in OB • Certified in performing Nuchal Translucency within 6 months • CPR certification
Education/Experience Required:
- Graduate of AMA approved school of ultrasound. • 2 years OB/GYN experience • Must become proficient in fetal echos within 1 year of hire date
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Good skills in OB/GYN and pelvic ultrasound exams • Good skills in endovaginal scanning. • Good skills in OB/GYN color duplex scanning. • Good skills and knowledge of pathology in high risk OB/GYN imaging.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Requires good judgment, needs, reliability, responsibility, independent thought and action. • Extreme flexibility in working hours. • Standing for long periods of time. • Perform emergency procedures as required. • Moving of equipment to bedside. • Additional Information: • Attend additional in-services to keep up with 30 hours accreditation. • Attend annual in-services on fire safety, infection control to meet department safety requirements. -Strong oral and written communication skills -Strong organizational skills -Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
