- Meets with assigned patients and, utilizing the appropriate tools, collects nutritional data then develops and implements a plan of care.
- Evaluates nutritional care in terms of expected outcome and takes appropriate action.
- Provides follow-up on nutritional care plan to facilitate continuity of care.
- Evaluates compliance and/or success of plan of care and revises as indicated.
- Identifies community resources appropriate in providing nutritional support to patient and family.
- Responds to educational needs and creates documents regarding nutrition. Initiates action to see that these needs are met.
- Identifies needs for patient educational materials and facilitates development or availability of support materials.
- Provides input in budget preparation for dietitian hours and supplies.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Dietitian (RD) registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and
- Dietitian certification issued by the state in which the team member practices.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Dietetics or related field.
Experience Required:
- No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Completion of a ACND accredited internship or coordinated dietetic program.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organization, decision-making, and problem solving skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during the work shift.
- Will occasionally be required to lift 25 lbs.
- Must have functional vision, hearing, speech, and touch.
- Will travel between clinic sites; therefore, may have exposure to related weather hazards.
- Exposed to a normal office environment.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
