Title: Registered Nurse – Operating Room Cohort -8/11/2025
Hours:
- Cohort to start August 11, 2025;
- 7am-3:30pm; Monday-Friday will be orientation schedule;
- Full Time; 80 hours a pay period;
- Future shift to be determined upon completion of orientation based on needs of department;
- Future rotating call upon successful completion of orientation expected to be 3-4 shifts per 4 week schedule;
- Must meet 30 minute call requirement
Job Summary:
We are seeking new graduate RN’s or experienced non OR RN’s that are excited about the Operating Room to join a cohort where you will orientate for a period of 6-9 months learning to be efficient as a Registered Nurse in Advocate Aurora Illinois Masonic Operating Rooms!
Are you looking for a teaching environment that will challenge your knowledge and skills surrounding surgical nursing in the Operating Room? You are the eyes, the ears, and the voice of the patient during one of the most vulnerable times of a person’s healthcare journey. The OR is highly interdependent and team based. You will work closely with surgeons, residents, advanced practice clinicians, anesthesiologists, technologists and assistants to provide superior surgical outcomes. Your orientation and practice environment is rooted in the specialty standards and educational programs of the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN). Your extensive RN orientation includes exposure to both circulating and scrub competencies.
The unit has 12 OR suites in the main hospital and 6 state of the art operating rooms in the Outpatient Center for Advanced Care. The surgical services division also provides pre and post-operative care focusing on the education of patients and families and providing smooth transitions between settings for the best patient outcomes. The OR performs all specialty surgeries except transplants, and offers state-of-the-art equipment and services. The surgery department is staffed 24 hours during the week.
Position Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Current IL RN license
- BSN preferred, ADN acceptable with agreement for nurses with less than 12 months of experience to enroll in BSN completion program to be completed in four years and obtain Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) recognized nursing certification within 2 years of the date of hire or becoming eligible to sit for certification, whichever is later.
- Nurses with more than 12 months experience in direct patient care must possess a BSN or obtain either BSN within 4 years of hire or obtain an Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) recognized nursing certification within one year of the date of hire or becoming eligible to sit for certification, whichever is later.
- Must be NCLEX passed and have “official pass letter” indicating you may practice under supervision for a period of 6 months from your pass date OR Illinois Nursing license by start of Cohort.
- Must be available to start August 11, 2025
- Current AHA CPR
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing
- Certain positions may need to take call
- Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sick
- Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster
- Routinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patients
- Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
