Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Monday through Friday- 1st shift.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Administers Radiation Therapy treatments in compliance with physician prescription and treatment plan.
    •     1)Reproduces setup in the treatment room as indicated in electronic chart utilizing appropriate positioning /immobilization devices.
    •     2)Maintains visual and audible contact with patients at all times.
    •     3)Reports all errors to Technical Coordinator, Medical Physicist and Physician.
    •     4)Identifies patient prior to treatment utilizing EMR queueing system and the patient identifiers.
    •     5)Ensures patient privacy throughout treatment process.
    •     6)Checks all physics plans prior to patients starting treatments and boosts
  • Maintains accurate treatment records.
    •     1)Accurately records and updates treatment data in electronic chart on a daily basis.
    •     2)Assures proper billing and statistics are done with each patient treatment.
    •     3)Documents all patient information into EMR in proper location.
    •     4)Completes all therapy QCL’s on all patient EMR on a daily and weekly basis
  • Assists the physician in localizing tumor volumes utilizing CT Simulator:
    •     1)Measures and records parameters for reproducibility of setup.
    •     2)Obtains CT images for treatment planning that are to the exact specifications of physician.
    •     3)Utilizes proper treatment positioning and correct immobilization devices for reproducability of setup or per physician
    •     4)Documents all patient information accurately in EMR.
    •     5)Schedules patient for all subsequent visits and completes all necessary QCL’s
  • Participates in oncall rotation
    •     1)Computes dose calculations utilizing treatment parameters and data according to departmental standard.
    •     2)Can demonstrate knowledge and usage of computerized calculation system.
  • Performs and records daily and weekly QA machine checks.
    •     1)Observes and reports any malfunction or operational problem to Elekta, Clinical Engineering (Oakbrook) and Technical Coordinator.
    •     2)Assures that checks are being done as scheduled per departmental and state requirements.
    •     3)Actively participates in the morning warm-up program.
  • Assists in the orientation and education of patients regarding treatments and side effects.
    •     1)Reinforces physician and RN advice regarding side effects.
    •     2)Reports any unusual side effects to physician and/or RN.
    •     3)Facilitates patient and family participation in self-care based on age and disease.
    •     4)Explains procedure to be performed to patient.
  • Instructs and supervises any students while training in facility.
    •     1)Tours students through CT Simulator and Linac Rooms, offering information regarding Radiation Therapy.
  • Participates in Radiation Oncology quality improvement programs
    •     1)Participates in weekly chart rounds
    •     2)Provides feedback and suggestion in Radiation Therapist, Department and Process Improvement meetings.
    •     3)Attends annual Radiation Safety inservice
    •     4)Utilizes Quality Checklist (QCL) items within patients charts for quality assurance.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Radiation Oncology Certificate and/or Associates degree in Radiation Therapy Technology.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Developing ability to work as a team player Developing ability to work with ill patients and their families in an empathetic fashion. Computer knowledge.
  • ARRT registry eligible or ARRT license. IEMA license CPR

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires heavy lifting of equipment and patients. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. repeatedly. Standard precautions for dealing with body substances and hazardous materials. Standard precautions for radiation safety per IDNS.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
