EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree and one year experience; or, an equivalent education and experience. Coursework in anatomy & physiology and medical terminology preferred. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: N/A ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Independently abstracts and interprets pertinent data from medical records with an average level of accuracy and efficiency. 2. Maintains extensive knowledge of study protocol, diseases, medical terminology and pharmaceutical drugs to make informed decisions regarding patient hospitalizations. 3. Reads, understands and abstracts information from diagnostic reports and procedures. 4. Participates in quality control reviews. 5. Resolves problems related to data queries sent by the coordinating center. 6. Attends training for annual re-certification programs, attends conferences for continuing education, attends and represents the WFUHS site at abstractor training and conference calls. 7. Communicates effectively and timely with the coordinating center. 8. Performs other duties as needed.
