Role Overview
We are seeking an APP to join a dynamic Urology team at Advocate Sherman Hospital. This position is set in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a wide variety of urology cases. It combines both clinic and hospital responsibilities, including managing consults, assisting in surgical procedures, and collaborating with physicians to deliver comprehensive urologic care.
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts
- After-hours call coverage rotating among APPs and physicians. Call rotation typically includes two days on, two days off, three days on, plus one weekend per month.

Major Responsibilities
This position encompasses clinical care, professional practice, and leadership responsibilities, ensuring safe, high-quality, and patient-centered outcomes.
Licensure
- Active Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the State of Illinois.
Education and Experience
- PA: Master’s degree or equivalent in Physician Assistant studies (effective January 1, 2018).
- APRN: Master’s in Nursing with current national certification in the appropriate specialty.
- Prior urology experience is strongly preferred but not required. Surgical or consult experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaboration and patient engagement.
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records.
- Current NCCPA certification (for PA) or national board certification (for APRN).
- Illinois Controlled Substance License within six months of hire.
- DEA registration eligibility and possession within six months of hire (may vary by site).
- Current BLS certification; PALS/ACLS certification as required by practice site.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including on-call coverage, to meet patient and organizational needs.
- Capacity to work under pressure in challenging situations and respond quickly to patient needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Routine exposure to infectious specimens and patients, as well as potentially hazardous conditions.
- Competence in caring for patients across age groups, understanding developmental and aging patterns.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds independently; patient handling equipment and team assistance required for heavier lifts.
