Schedule Details/Additional Information:
This is a remote role. Remote work is currently only approved for residents living in the following states:  AL, AK, AR, AZ, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, LA, KS, KY, ME, MI, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WV, WY.

  • Working in collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist, the Medical Dosimetrist designs radiation treatment plans (with alternatives) for patients using a treatment planning computer and/ or manual calculations according to the physician’s prescription.

    Job Description
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Production of acceptable treatment plans for radiation oncology patients.
    • Proficient with functions of the treatment planning system including, but not limited to, contouring, image registration, plan optimization and plan evaluation.    

    • Assist simulator technologist with difficult patient set ups.

    • Create treatment plans which fulfill the needs of the radiation oncologist. Ensure treatment plans minimally meet but ideally exceed physician dosimetric parameters.

    • Consult with the radiation oncologist in the selection of the best plan.

    • Review treatment parameters with physician for plan approval. Bring to physician attention and note any parameters that fall outside of expected treatment guidelines.

    • Supervise the radiation therapists in implementation of the selected treatment plan (correct use of bolus, immobilization, wedges and field arrangement).

    • Quality assurance checks on the treatment course of radiation oncology patients.

      • Proficient with functions of the record and verify system including, but not limited to, importing and exporting of treatment plans and verification that treatment plan complies with the intended treatment course. Inform physicists of unusual errors or messages.

      • Verify all necessary patient documentation related to treatment planning is complete.

      • Actively participate in weekly chart rounds.
         

    • Participate in continuous process improvement meetings and projects
       

    • Provide remote treatment planning support and travel to multiple radiation oncology departments when needed.
       

    • Maintain daily billing for billable physics and treatment planning services.
       

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    • License/Registration/Certification Required: ​ Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) or Board Eligible
    • Education Required: ​ ​Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Science or Medical Dosimetry
    • Experience Required: Typically requires one year of experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Excellent understanding of radiation dosimetry and basic radiation physics.

    • Proficient in areas of anatomy, physiology, radiobiology, and radiation safety.

    • Experience with treatment planning systems, record and verify systems, IMRT and VMAT techniques.

    • Ability to learn new technologies and incorporate these into the daily workflow.

    • Strong organizational and communication skills in a high-volume environment.

    • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    • Contribute to a strong and supportive team environment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Must follow safety precautions in use of linear accelerators. Radiation Safety precautions must be followed per IEMA regulations and Hospital policies.

    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

    • Exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and radiation hazards.

    • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job
