Step into a vital clinical role within our new Ambulatory Surgery Center, where you will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered intra‑operative care in a fast‑paced outpatient environment. As an Ambulatory and Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN), you will be a key member of the Advocate Health Nursing Professional Governance community, contributing to exceptional patient outcomes through evidence‑based practice, strong clinical judgment, and compassionate care. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, advocate for patient needs, and uphold the highest standards of professional nursing practice in support of safe, efficient, and patient‑focused surgical care.

Essential Functions

  • Engages in unit councils, professional governance, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance care processes and support evidence‑based practices.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care across the ambulatory surgical continuum.
  • Partners with patients and families to ensure effective communication, education, and engagement throughout the surgical experience.
  • Monitors patient conditions intra‑operatively and adjusts care plans while collaborating with the surgical team to influence optimal outcomes.
  • Upholds and promotes a strong culture of safety within the operating room and ASC environment.
  • Continuously evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes and initiates appropriate actions for improvement.
  • Administers medications, treatments, and therapies safely in accordance with ASC protocols and clinical standards.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, feedback delivery, and conflict resolution to support teamwork and appropriate delegation.
  • Pursues professional growth, completes required education, and maintains all mandated certifications.
  • Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics and practices ethical decision‑making, respecting interdisciplinary roles and promoting unbiased, patient‑centered care.
  • Delegates appropriately to RNs, LPNs, and unlicensed assistive personnel such as nurse aides and credentialed medical assistants.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and complete electronic health record (EHR) documentation.
  • Floats to other ASC clinical areas (pre‑op, PACU, procedure rooms) or designated outpatient departments as needed to meet patient care needs.
  • Demonstrates competency in providing age‑appropriate and developmentally appropriate care consistent with departmental standards and patient needs.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of a Board of Nursing–approved nursing education program.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license—multi‑state compact or single‑state—eligible to practice in all states where patient care is provided.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Additional specialty certifications may be required based on clinical assignment.

Experience

  • Typically requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience; peri‑operative or ambulatory surgery experience preferred.

  • Effective time management, prioritization, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support collaboration within the surgical team.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, dynamic ASC environment.
  • Proficiency in EHR documentation and digital communication platforms.
