Transplant and Cellular Therapy Quality Coordinator

Major Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance
1)Recognizes changes in clinical situations, evaluates, and implement changes to the Standard Operating Procedures and contributes to the design and collection of data for required transplant reporting.
2)Facilitates monthly BMT Quality meetings, analyzing and managing all the required data to be reported at the meeting.
3)Participates in quality management activities to improve the quality of the bone marrow transplant program, following Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).
4)Actively participates in the quality improvement and quality management program activities including FDA, FACT, NMDP, CIBMTR. Attends and participates in BMT meetings and process improvements.
5)Participates in preparations for accreditations not limited to Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR), National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Be the Match, Illinois Department of Public Aid, and various insurance groups.
6)Works with hospital’s legal and risk management departments as needed to ensure patient safety and accurate reports of transplant events and the development of program forms, SOPs and consents used for treatment.
7)Participates in abstracting internal and external data used to develop departmental flow sheets and information graphs for educational presentations and required regulatory documentation
8)Participate in Standard Operating Procedures management. Works with program’s Medical Director, Director, Manager and team members to update and introduce new SOPs as needed to maintain program efficiency and patient safety following FACT standards.

CONSULTATION:
1)Uses current evidence to analyze data and develop recommendations and strategies to address complex issues and identify opportunities for improvement. Communicates recommendations and facilitates team members understanding to effect appropriate evidence based change.
2)Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and effective communication skills to engage in collaborative relationships and involve stakeholders and other members of the team.
3)Provides comprehensive support to transplant patients to assist in navigating the delivery of optimum and safe patient care.
4)Communicate with patients and families providing clinical support and expertise to guide through the healthcare experience

OPERATIONAL IMPLEMENTATION:
1)Oversees and participates in the systematic and purposeful collection of data, information, and knowledge to facilitate comprehensive assessment of projects and identify opportunities for improved program outcomes in the pursuit of performance distinction.
2)Utilizing clinical expertise participates in chart abstraction for various clinical outcome measures and databases in accordance with established data definitions and programs.
3)Uses current clinical knowledge and expertise to assist with reports of team activity by using appropriate visual tools to display outcomes. Documents opportunities for improvement and highlights achievements as compared to current evidence.
5)Identifies and uses appropriate clinically relevant sources of evidence for projects assigned.
4)Serves as an expert resource to team in analyzing and interpreting data based on clinical expertise and current evidence based literature identifying patterns, trends, opportunities for improvement and highlighting best practices found. Utilizes current evidence to guide the team in developing recommendations and strategies to address identified opportunities and improve patient outcomes. Assists the team, in understanding methods used for data collection and data definitions.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
1)Continually enhances knowledge related to regulatory agencies such as FACT and governmental regulations.
2)Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and changes through education of team members of the BMT program.
3)Conducts tracers to establish compliance with regulatory requirements and agencies. Identifies opportunities for improvement and best practices. Shares information with team to enhance patient outcomes and achieve clinical excellence.
4)Works collaboratively with leadership to explore opportunities to move data acquisition to a different status or function so that optimization can occur.

Education/Experience Required:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or other healthcare related bachelors degree. • 2-3 years of clinical practice quality management in a hospital setting or health related setting (Oncology/BMT preferred) • Knowledge in quality improvement activities and use of current evidence based practice

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Experience in the use of quality management software. Proficient in statistical application and performance analysis. Proficient in spreadsheet, word processing, database, and graphic software. • Proficient in evidence based practice, critical thinking, statistical knowledge, analytical skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a wide variety of healthcare individuals and teams. • Effective written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills • Ability to work with diverse teams and individuals
• RN/ CPHQ or other healthcare certification
